Samsung has announced its development of a new Flex Gaming Console, a concept for a foldable gaming device that was presented at MWC 2025 in March. A recently uncovered design patent has introduced another foldable concept from Samsung: a handheld gaming console with a display that can expand into a larger screen. This device has been observed in multiple configurations and includes controls reminiscent of those found on well-known gaming consoles such as the Nintendo DS and PlayStation console.

Samsung Handheld Gaming Console Design Spotted

A report from 91Mobiles showcases several illustrations of a handheld gaming console that appears to incorporate a foldable screen. This design has been identified in the World Intellectual Property Organization records, described as “the ornamental design for a remote controller.” The console resembles a clamshell-style device, with controllers positioned on both the left and right sides. It features two panels that fold together and a hinge accompanied by shoulder buttons.

The patent documentation further verifies that both the right and left sides of the device have a sleek design. Figure number six provides a top view, revealing two thumbsticks, directional buttons, and what seem to be shoulder buttons located at the upper part of the device.

Certain images depict the gaming device with its display fully opened flat, revealing no creases. A top-down perspective of the patented device illustrates the display in its fully extended state. One of the sketches highlights the lower section of the handset, which appears to lack any display elements.

The final illustration presents the device with its display angled open, suggesting this is the intended usage for the handheld. It remains uncertain whether the larger screen will display the same game or if the lower section could function as a secondary display for additional information. Above and below the display, there seem to be speaker grilles, along with a USB-C port that may serve as a headphone jack. The sides of the device also appear to feature identical D-pads, face buttons, and air triggers.

Like the Flex Gaming Console, there is no information available regarding the potential implementation of this patented design into a device. At present, Samsung produces the Galaxy Z Fold and Galaxy Z Flip foldable phones, but it has not revealed any intentions to venture into the foldable gaming handheld market.
