A hot minute after the Fold 7 and Flip 7’s launch, rumors about Samsung’s S26 Ultra have started circulating on the internet. A couple of days ago, we published a report on how the flagship could get 60W wired charging. Now, renowned tipster Ice Universe has claimed that the handset’s camera could get an underrated yet important upgrade.

Samsung Has Stuck With The 200MP Sensor Since The S23 Ultra

Since the Galaxy S23 Ultra, Samsung has used the same 200MP ISOCELL HP2 primary sensor with an f/1.7 aperture. For those catching up, every camera module has an opening that determines the amount of light entering the sensor, and it’s called the aperture.

The lower the aperture number, the more light enters the sensor, which results in better picture quality. While smartphones don’t have a full-fledged variable aperture, every sensor ships with a pre-defined aperture value. For Samsung, it has been f/1.7 for the last three years.

The Galaxy S26 Ultra Could Benefit From A Lower Aperture Number

However, that could change in 2026, with the arrival of the Galaxy S26 Ultra. Ice Universe claims that the handset could come with the same 200MP sensor, but with a bigger f/1.4 aperture that could increase the amount of light entering the sensor by 47%; that’s a significant number.

While the S25 Ultra already clicks pretty solid pictures in low light, the lower aperture could further improve the S26 Ultra’s cameras, and by a noticeable margin no less.

  • We could get much more details in pictures, with much less noise (or grain).
  • Further, an increase in the aperture opening could also intensify the natural background blur we get when the subject is kept close enough to the sensor.

Of course, we are around four to five months away from the Galaxy S26’s launch, and nothing can be said with certainty at the moment. However, if Samsung has finalized on using the same sensor for the S26 Ultra, improving the aperture could be the least the company can do for its customers.
