The Korean tech giant Samsung has unveiled Vision AI, a set of AI-enabled features that make its televisions smarter and more interactive. The company announced the CES 2025 First Look event right before the annual tech festival kicks off on January 7, 2025. Along with Vision AI, Samsung also unveiled the latest flagship smart TV, Neo QLED 8K QN990F, among other updates to the lineup.

First, let’s discuss what Samsung Vision AI is. Remember Galaxy AI? It is an umbrella term that refers to all the GenAI features available on compatible Galaxy smartphones, including Circle to Search, Live Translate, Generative Edit, and so on. Similarly, Vision AI is the marketing term for the set of AI-based features for Samsung’s Smart TV.

“With the ability to make your Samsung TV aware of its surroundings, adaptive to user preferences, and autonomous in delivering intuitive features, Samsung Vision AI transforms screens into smart companions,” mentions the official press release. Below is the list of Vision AI features that will arrive on compatible smart TVs soon.

Click to Search: Let’s You Explore Content On Your TV’s Screen

The first Samsung Vision AI feature is Click to Search. Similar to “Circle to Search,” the feature offers users instant information about what’s on the screen. Whether you wish to identify an actor or explore displayed content (perhaps an item in an advertisement), the Click to Search feature can help with it and other similar things.

Samsung TV’s To Get The Live Translate Feature

Then, there’s the Live Translate feature, which runs on an on-device AI translation model. This could be a very useful feature, especially since people are now trying to explore overseas content, TV shows, and movies. With Live Translate, users can translate subtitles in real-time, allowing them to view and enjoy global content with ease.

Generative Wallpaper In TVs? Samsung’s Doing It

Vision AI consists of Generative Wallpaper, a feature that transforms screens into dynamic, personalized art canvases, enabling users to make images as they like. Last but not least, there’s on-device AI picture and sound technology, which can analyze content and adjust visuals and audio for an optimized experience.

All of the Vision AI features mentioned above should be available on the Neo QLED, OLED, QLED, and The Frame lineups by Samsung. Although the company didn’t clarify this, it will most likely release the features through an OTA update. However, to flaunt all the new GenAI features, Samsung has launched a new smart TV: Neo QLED 8K QN990F.

Claimed to be the most advanced TV to date, the Neo QLED 8K QN990F features the latest NQ8 AI Gen3 Processor, which makes running on-device AI features possible. Some of the key features include 8K AI Upscaling Pro, Auto HDR Remastering Pro, Adaptive Sound Pro, Color Booster Pro, and AI Mode. Further, the smart TV is available in an ultra-slim, minimalist design.

New Additions To The SmartThings Ecosystem

While these are the active Vision AI features for end-users, Samsung has also made a few announcements regarding its SmartThings ecosystem of connected home devices.

For instance, there’s the Home Insights feature, which provides real-time updates about users’ household environment, safety alerts, and other daily updates. Then there’s the Per and Family Care feature, which monitors users’ loved ones (staying at home). The feature is capable of detecting unusual behavior in pets and family members.

In addition, the feature can automatically adjust room settings, like dimming lights, when someone falls asleep.

Along with Vision AI and advancements in the SmartThings ecosystem, Samsung has also announced the expansion of its Art Store, which now features over 3,000 curated works from global partners. Further, it has announced The Frame Pro, which elevates the art and entertainment experience with Neo QLED technology. At its core, the new television runs on the NQ4 Gen3 AI processor.

The device also features Wireless One Connect, enabling flexible installation without the hassle of managing wires. The main difference between The Frame and The Frame Pro is that the latter is capable of delivering brighter colors, sharper contrasts, and improved local dimming for deeper blacks. Moreover, Samsung has improved the overall picture quality, which is one complaint that users have had with the previous generation.

The CES 2025 First Look event also saw the advent of The Premiere 5, which is the first interactive triple-laser ultra-short-throw (UST) projector. With an interactive touch feature that allows users to engage directly with the screen, the Premiere 5 features LightWARP technology that is capable of projecting images onto everyday objects for creative experiences.
