Samsung took the tech world by storm when it announced Galaxy AI with the Samsung Galaxy S24 Series in January 2024. Now the brand is gearing up to host the second Unpacked Event of 2024 on July 10, wherein it is expected to announce more Galaxy AI capabilities. In the past, there were reports that Samsung might put Galaxy AI behind a paywall, and now there’s more clarity on the matter as the brand has confirmed Galaxy AI will be free only until 2025.

Samsung Galaxy AI to be free till 2025

The South Korean tech brand has shared a press release that confirms that the Galaxy AI will be free only until 2025. The press release includes details about the showcasing of Galaxy AI capabilities by opening seven Galaxy Experience spaces around the world. Countries include Paris, Dubai, and Tokyo. The features will be available free of charge until the end of 2025, which means Samsung is planning to start charging for AI in 2026.

Although details about paid AI are not clear, Samsung is expected to roll out a paid version called ‘Galaxy AI+’ in 2026. The basic version might continue for free, while the paid version will offer more features.

This is similar to how various AI-based assistants were earlier announced for free but later received their subscription plans. These include Google’s Gemini, OpenAI’s ChatGPT, and Microsoft’s Co-pilot.

Samsung Galaxy AI features

Chat Assist: This AI feature helps users make conversations by phrasing appropriate replies for the messages they receive. It offers support and translation in thirteen languages as of now.

Circle to Search: One of the most used Galaxy AI features is Circle to Search. It has been co-created with Google and allows users to search for anything from anywhere in between a browsing or a shopping session. You just have to long press the home button, circle, tap, or highlight what you want to search for and get results within seconds.

Photo Assist: As the name suggests, this feature helps improve photography by generating editing tools. It lets users enlarge photos or edit them to make them look better.

Interpreter: The capability works as a translation tool when you are in a place where your language is foreign to the people around you and their language is foreign to you. It helps read signboards, ask people for help, and navigate around. It works without internet connectivity.

Instant Slo-mo: This Gen AI feature allows users to slow down ordinary videos by adding a slow-motion effect. It works on videos between 720p and 4K and works by filling in gaps between frames using generative AI.

AI Summary: This feature allows you to save time and energy spent reading long texts, like lengthy articles. It works perfectly across the web pages on Samsung’s browser, and by just tapping on the Galaxy AI star icon, you will get a quick, short, or detailed summary of text in bullet points.
