The South Korean tech giant Samsung, in a video, has teased its ISOCELL Zoom Anyplace technology. It has long been working on a high-resolution zoom sensor that is said to debut alongside the company’s 2024 flagship, the Galaxy S24 Ultra. In the teaser, Samsung showcases how the technology works in potential use cases, which, at first look, appear promising.

Zoom Anyplace Offers Dynamic Subject Tracking

Samsung ISOCELL automatic subject tracking

The Zoom Anyplace technology works in tandem with the company’s new 200MP sensor and the advanced AI engine on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC. Essentially, the proprietary technology offers automatic subject-tracking by zooming in and out of a scene. The AI-based tracking technology keeps the selected subject in the center while dynamically adjusting zoom levels.

4K Video Recording At 4x Zoom

The Zoom Anyplace technology, along with the 200MP sensor, can zoom in up to four times on a subject and still provide 4K resolution in a video. Assume that you’re recording a video in horizontal orientation. With Samsung’s technology, you can zoom into a particular portion of the frame without losing on the overall video quality.

As several creators and professionals rely on videos, this could be a breakthrough technology, especially since it doesn’t require moving the smartphone closer or farther from the subject. Practically, the technology will also allow users to capture different perspectives in the same video (capturing two videos at once). Moreover, the Zoom Anyplace technology looks exciting, as it is something we haven’t seen on many new smartphones.

New AI Remosiac Technology Improves Image Processing Time

Samsung has also talked about its new end-to-end AI Remosiac feature, which claims to fasten the process of capturing images by up to two times. It changes the data output from sequential to parallel, which not only reduces processing time (what we experience shutter lag) but also promises to improve image quality. Samsung doesn’t confirm which smartphone will use these new technologies.

However, since they are based on Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC, our best guess is the Galaxy S24 Ultra. Rumors suggest the smartphone can come out early next as part of the Galaxy S24 series. Although, other models in the series, including the Galaxy S24 and the Galaxy S24 Plus, could run on an Exynos chip.
