On September 9, 2024, Apple hosted the “Glowtime” event and launched the new iPhone 16 lineup. While the regular models are a modest update over the previous generation, the Pro models offer a significant jump. Given that Apple has increased the screen sizes of the Pro variants, the larger iPhone 16 Pro Max, through no fault of its own, competes with Samsung’s Ultra lineup, particularly in terms of screen size and weight.
Currently, Samsung sells the Galaxy S24 Ultra (review) as its latest and greatest smartphone ever. However, in a few months, the Korean tech giant will reveal the Galaxy S25 Ultra, which will compete with the iPhone 16 Pro Max. Amid the circle of launch cycles, tipster @UniverseIce on X has come up with an interesting tidbit about the flagships.

Galaxy S25 Ultra Could Weight 14 Grams Less Than The iPhone 16 Pro Max
With a Titanium frame, a frosted glass back, and a second-generation Ceramic Shield front, the iPhone 16 Pro Max weighs 227 grams. Given that the phone has a 6.9-inch display, it is commendable how Apple has managed to keep the weight in check. In fact, the iPhone 16 Pro Max weighs less than Samsung’s current flagship, the Galaxy S24 Ultra, which weighs 233 grams.
However, Samsung could turn around the tables in the battle of lightweight, big-screen flagships with its Galaxy S25 Ultra. According to the tipster, the Galaxy S25 Ultra will weigh 219 grams, making it 14 grams lighter than the Galaxy S24 Ultra and 8 grams lighter than the iPhone 16 Pro Max.

Galaxy S25 Ultra’s Dimensions Are Similar To Those Of The iPhone 16 Pro Max
The tipster claims that the S25 Ultra will measure 162.8 x 77.6 x 8.2 mm, making it slightly taller, less wide, and thinner than the S24 Ultra. However, the leaked dimensions of the S25 Ultra are very similar to those of the iPhone 16 Pro Max, which measures 163 x 77.6 x 8.25 mm. Similar dimensions also mean the phones will share their screen size and aspect ratio.
Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 Vs. A18 Pro

While the A18 Pro features a six-core CPU that contains two 4.05GHz performance cores and four 2.2GHz balanced cores, the upcoming Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 could come with two prime cores at 4.37GHz and six performance cores at 2.78GHz. The sheer increase in clock speed means that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 may outperform the A18 Pro in more aspects than ever. However, we are a bit skeptical about the heat management mechanism manufacturers would have to implement.
Nonetheless, if the Galaxy S25 Ultra features the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 SoC, there’s a good chance that it would beat the iPhone 16 Pro Max in terms of performance. Yesterday, we also reported that the Galaxy S25 Ultra could ship with an improved ultrawide camera, which was also the only camera upgrade the iPhone 16 Pro series got this year.
