Live Translate To Be Available On WhatsApp With The One UI 6.1.1 Update

According to a new leak from tipster Ice Universe via X (formerly known as Twitter), the Meta-owned instant messaging platform WhatsApp will soon add support for voice call translation via Galaxy AI. The feature could arrive on select Galaxy models with the One UI 6.1.1 update.

What’s important is that the leak comes after the company confirmed bringing Galaxy AI support to third-party applications. In particular, the Live Translate feature will power real-time call translation on WhatsApp. Per the tipster, Samsung could announce the feature alongside the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Z Flip 6 on July 10, 2024.

What Is Live Translate Anyway?

For those catching up, the Live Translate feature uses on-device processing to translate calls on the go. It is a part of Galaxy AI, the suite of GenAI features that Samsung debuted with the Galaxy S24 series. To use the feature, users must tap the Call Assist feature and then hit Live Translate as both speakers start speaking. The translation then appears on the screen.

For now, Live Translate is available on the Galaxy S24 and S23 series and other Galaxy devices released in the last two to three years. Samsung could soon release an OTA update to integrate it with WhatsApp on supported models. More information about the feature should appear soon.
