The Department of Telecom’s (DoT) technology development arm, C-DoT, has recently introduced a citizen-centric website called Sanchar Saathi. This platform aims to empower mobile subscribers and enhance security measures. Initially piloted in select regions such as Maharashtra, Karnataka, Delhi, and the North East, the government has now expanded the services of Sanchar Saathi to cover all of India. This means that mobile users across the country can utilize the website to track and block their lost or stolen devices, verify the authenticity of a device before purchasing, and access various other helpful features.

One of the primary functions of Sanchar Saathi is to assist users in blocking their lost or stolen phones. By entering the IMEI (International Mobile Equipment Identity) details of the device, users can report the incident and temporarily block their phone. Once blocked, the device becomes unusable and will not connect to any telecom service provider’s network anywhere in India.

Here is a step-by-step guide on how to use Sanchar Saathi:

  1. Visit the official Sanchar Saathi website.
  2. Fill in the required information, including your name, phone number, IMEI details, device brand, model, and invoice information.
  3. Provide specific details about the location where you lost your smartphone, including the city, district, state, and date.
  4. Upload a copy of the complaint filed with the police, along with the details of the police station and the complaint number.
  5. Enter the owner’s information, including their name, address, identity documentation, and email.
  6. Complete the captcha and validate the application by entering the OTP (One-Time Password) received, then submit the complaint.
  7. Accept the declaration and click on “Submit” to finalize the process.

In addition to tracking and blocking lost or stolen phones, Sanchar Saathi offers other valuable features. Users can utilize the platform to verify the authenticity of a device they intend to purchase by checking the IMEI number and model name. Furthermore, the website includes a TAFCOP (Telecom Analytics for Fraud Management and Consumer Protection) feature that enables users to view the number of devices issued under their name, providing an added layer of security.

Sanchar Saathi is a significant step forward in ensuring the safety and security of mobile phone users in India. By leveraging this user-friendly website, individuals can take proactive measures to protect their devices and verify the legitimacy of their purchases.
