Last month, we compiled a PS5 Pro rumors roundup. It included all the information available about the mid-generation refresh expected later this year. Now, a renowned publication corroborates those claims, asserting that the PS5 Pro is real and could launch by the end of this year.

Sony Asks Developers To Be Ready By August

According to a new report by The Verge, the PlayStation 5 Pro will offer a host of upgrades. The report mentions how the company has asked game developers to ensure that their titles are compatible with the mid-generation console, with a special focus on enhanced ray tracing.

PS5 Pro To Focus On Ray Tracing Improvements

Sony PlayStation 5 Summer Promo discount details

The PS5 Pro carries the codename “Trinity”. Per the latest report, it will feature “a more powerful GPU and a slightly faster CPU mode.” Sony’s upgrades will focus on creating a console that will be “far more capable of rendering games with ray tracing enabled or hitting higher resolutions and frame rates in certain titles,” the report adds.

The entertainment giant expects PS5 Pro to provide a 45 percent faster graphical rendering than the standard PS5. It will feature a larger GPU paired with speedier system memory. The improved graphics result from a “more powerful ray tracing architecture,” which could deliver up to three times better performance than the regular console.

PS5 Pro To Feature Regular PS5 CPU With A Higher Performance Mode

Regarding the CPU, the latest report corroborates previous claims that Sony relies on the same processor for the PS5 Pro as the regular PS5. Even so, the new console will feature a performance mode that will overclock the CPU to 3.85 GHz.

However, using the high-performance mode will downclock the GPU by around 1.5 percent to allocate more power to the processor. Developers will also get access to an additional 1.2GB of system memory.

The increased system speed could be useful for integrating the PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR) support, Sony’s proprietary solution for upscaling video games. However, games upscaled from 1080p to 4K could experience a latency of two milliseconds.

The Gaming Console Is Expected To Debut In Time For The Holiday Season

Video game developers can access the PS5 Pro test kits. The company expects every game submitted in August to be compatible with the upcoming console. If the deadline for compatible game submission is met, the PS5 Pro could very well become a reality right before the Holiday 2024 season.
