Gemini extensions enable users to access and control features of various apps like YouTube, Gmail, Maps, and YouTube Music. However, these extensions have been limited to Google apps so far, restricting users of non-Google apps such as Spotify. Fortunately, this is about to change with the upcoming addition of a Gemini extension for Spotify.
This information was first spotted by Android Authority in the Google app version v15.22.29.29.arm64. The two lines of code make it clear that Google is working on a Spotify extension for Gemini.
In the code extracted by Android Authority, we can see that the “assistant_robin_action_spotify_tap_snackbar” string would start playing music on Spotify. Robin is referring to Gemini here, and the explicit mention of Spotify leaves no room for doubt that Google is, in fact, bringing a Spotify extension to Gemini.

So, what will this extension even do? Let’s look at the YouTube Music extension to understand this. With the YouTube Music extension turned on, you can ask Gemini to find a song for you, search for similar songs (by song name or artist), find music in a specific genre, or simply play the music that you like.

The Spotify extension should work similarly, but not all features might be available since this is a third-party app. Nonetheless, it’s encouraging to see Google pushing third-party app extensions to Gemini, making it more useful for a wide range of users.
The extension isn’t live yet but should be available in an upcoming beta update or build. Until then, let us know which other app extensions you would like to see integrated into Gemini.
