Swiggy And Zomato Decrease Free Delivery Distance From 10 To 7 Kilometers: Netizens React

In a surprising development, popular Indian food delivery services Swiggy and Zomato seem to have changed their free-delivery policy for premium members. While the former offers the Swiggy One membership for Rs. 99 per month, the latter provides the Zomato Gold membership for the same price. And while both the platforms used to provide free deliveries from restaurants within 10 kilometers, that reportedly has changed.

Here Are The Changes Made In The Premium Food Delivery Memberships

According to several X (formerly known as Twitter) users, Swiggy and Zomato have decreased the free delivery distance from 10km to 7km. Further, the minimum order value for free delivery has increased from Rs. 149 to Rs. 199. What’s interesting is that both platforms seem to have implemented this change at the same time, which would leave users with no choice but to use the platform they’re using.

Personally, I have been a Swiggy user from the beginning. Upon checking my account, I found out that I still have access to”unlimited free deliveries above Rs. 149, on all restaurants up to 10km.” I’ll attach the screenshot for your reference as well. Given that several users see the revised benefits in their app, I speculate that the policy change applies to new Swiggy One users who have either exhausted their previous membership or are getting one for the first time.

However, there’s a Zomato user who reports seeing a change in the middle of the current membership.

How Does The Policy Change Affect Users?

With the policy change, users would not only have to pay more to get free delivery, but they would also be unable to order food from their favorite outlet (if it’s more than 7 km away from their place). This is what several users have highlighted on X, the microblogging platform. However, the other benefits of the memberships have remained unchanged, such as additional discounts on ordering food, instant discounts on dining out at partner restaurants, and so on.

While the decrease in free-delivery radius has been headlined recently, we found a tweet from over a month ago, where an X user (@Umanggpt3) highlighted the revised rates. What’s more important is that the official Zomato Care account responded to the tweet on May 20, stating that it has revised the “Gold membership to provide more value and affordability.” To this, another X user (@KhushaJun17532) responded by saying that “it will reduce our [customers’] options & yet you [Zomato] will charge the same for the membership.”
