Tata Punch has been refreshed with a new facelift. Tata has launched the new Punch at a starting price of ₹5.59 lakh (ex-showroom). This is the first major upgrade to the Tata Punch since it was first launched in 2021. The new Tata Punch comes with upgrades across the board, with both the interiors and exteriors getting major upgrades as compared to the outgoing Punch model.

Apart from the exteriors and interiors, Tata Motors has also introduced a new powertrain option with the Tata Punch. Apart from the 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine along with CNG, Tata has launched the new Tata Punch with a 1.2-litre turbo petrol engine borrowed from the Tata Nexon. This, however, only comes in a manual transmission.

The Tata Punch has been launched in six variants, priced between ₹5.59 lakh to ₹10.54 lakh (ex-showroom) for the top-end variant. The new Tata Punch competes with the likes of the Hyundai Exter, the Maruti Susuki Fronx or the Totoya Urban Cruiser Taisor, and the likes. In this article, however, we will compare the new Tata Punch with the Hyundai Exter. Let us take a look:

Tata Punch 2026 vs Hyundai Exter: Engine and Transmission

The Tata Punch, as mentioned above, has been launched with a new 1.2-litre turbo petrol engine which produces 120 bhp of power and 170 Nm of torque, ensuring a 0-100 kmph dash of 11.1 seconds. This is available with only a 6-speed manual transmission, which is said to be a step towards keeping the price in check and avoid any sort of overlap with the Tata Nexon.

Apart from this, the Tata Punch comes with the 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine along with a CNG option, where the 1.2 litre N/A engine is producing 88 bhp of power and 115 Nm of torque. The CNG option, on the other hand, produces 73 bhp of power and 103 Nm of torque. Both offered in a 5-speed manual transmission or an AMT gearbox.

The Hyundai Exter, on the other hand, comes with 1 petrol engine and 1 petrol-CNG option. The petrol engine is a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated engine which produces 82 bhp of power and 114 Nm of torque. This also comes with 5-speed AMT automatic or a 5-speed manual transmission.

Tata Punch 2026 vs Hyundai Exter: Features and Comfort

Coming to the amount of features on offer, the Tata Punch comes with a similar dashboard layout as the previous version. There are, however, changes. We are getting the new two-spoke steering wheel with an illuminated logo, and a touch-sensitive center console, which is not a good addition in my opinion.

The new Tata Punch also comes with a new 7-inch digital instrument cluster, and a 10.25-inch infotainment display which is the same as the outgoing model. There is also a new 360-degree camera and a new 8-speaker surround sound system. The Tata Punch comes with a single-pane sunroof, a wireless charger, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, type C charging ports, automatic climate control, and cruise control.

The Hyundai Exter, on the other hand, comes with an 8-inch infotainment system, a digital instrument cluster, and also comes with automatic climate control and cruise control. The Hyundai Exter, however, doesn’t come with 360-degree cameras.

Tata Punch 2026 vs Hyundai Exter: Who Should Buy What

Now, given the similarities in the price and the form factor, both the Tata Punch and Hyundai Exter cater to the same kind of customer. Both have their own advantages and disadvantages, but let’s make things a bit more clear.

Given that the Tata Punch is Tata’s latest offering in the mini SUV segment, it comes with many more features as compared to the Hyundai Exter. We are getting things like a 360-degree camera, an 8-speaker surround sound system, and more features with the Tata Punch. Further, people looking for a more fun-to-drive car in this segment and pricepoint should also go for the Tata Punch with the new 1.2-litre petrol turbo engine, which is much more powerful than any other engine/ transmission on offer with the Hyundai Exter.

So who is the Hyundai Exter for? People looking for refinement over checkboxes. The Hyundai Exter is a much more reliable car and users have not reported any sort of malfunctioninig or breakdowns with the Hyundai Exter. The Tata Punch, while not on the roads yet, is a Tata car after all and if history is to be looked at, Tata cars are not the most refined and reliable machines. Same applies to customer support and after sales service, where Hyundai’s service is much better and professional as compared to Tata Motors.
