The Tata and Mahindra rivalry is about to get hotter. Soon after Mahindra introduced its first 7-seater SUV with the Mahindra XEV 9S, Tata is also reportedly planning its first 7-seater SUV in the form of the Tata Safari EV, which will be the flagship electric EV from the brand, a title that is currently held by the Tata Harrier EV.
The Tata Safari EV is expected to be based on the same acti.ev+ platform, with the same underpinnings as the Harrier EV. This means that the Tata Safari EV too, will be an ICE-to-EV conversion, and will not be a born EV. Like the Harrier EV, the Tata Safari EV is also expected to come with an AWD option as well.

We expect the Tata Safari EV to be packed with the same 75kWh and 65kWh battery options. In the Harrier EV, the 75 kWh option offers a total range of 627 kilometers, and the 65 kWh battery offers a claimed range of 538 kilometers. The Tata Safari is expected to have similar or slightly higher range as compared to the Harrier EV.
Coming to cosmetics, the car will look pretty much the same as the Tata Safari on offer today with minor details to distinguish the EV factor. The dimensions, however, are expected to remain identical to the ICE version of the Tata Safari.
In terms of features, the Tata Safari EV is expected to remain unchanged from the ICE version too. However, the Safari EV will be using the Tata Intelligent Data Architecture (TiDAL) which is also available in the Harrier EV. This enables features like OTA updates, a 540-degree camera which also shows underbody feed, better ADAS level 2, auto parking assist, adaptive cruise control, and other features in the car.

The Tata Safari EV is expected to arrive in India during the festive season later this year. According to an Autocar report, the production is said to commence in August this year. It also said that sharing internals with the Harrier EV will allow Tata to fast track the production. The expected price of the Tata Safari EV will be in competition with the Mahindra XEV 9S, which is priced between ₹21.17 lakh to ₹32.23 lakh (ex-showroom).
