Tata Sierra vs. Competition: Key Takeaways

- The Tata Sierra is longer than the Creta, Elevate, Taigun, and Kylaq. However, the Seltos, Grand Vitara, and the Hyryder measure slightly higher in length.
- However, when it comes to width, which determines how comfortably three people can sit on the rear seat and how spacious or cramped the interior feels to passengers, the Sierra tops this chart. It measures 1814 mm in width, followed by the Seltos at 1800 mm and the Grand Vitara at 1795 mm.
- Even in terms of height, the Sierra is the tallest in the segment, measuring over 1.7 meters. After the Sierra, the Honda Elevate comes second, and the Grand Vitara and Toyota Hyryder come in at third.
- The Sierra also excels in boot space, with a 622-liter boot that is around 35% larger than the Honda Elevate’s and 66% larger than the Grand Vitara’s.
- In terms of ground clearance, however, the Honda Elevate wins over its competitors. With an unloaded ground clearance of 220 mm, the car is followed by the Grand Vitara and Hyryder; the Sierra comes in third.
- Finally, the Sierra has the longest wheelbase of all the vehicles, which should enhance stability (given how tall the car is) and result in a smoother ride.

- Among the NA petrol engines (except on the Volkswagen and Skoda), the Honda Elevate produces the highest peak power (119 PS), followed by the Korean sisters — Creta and Seltos. However, the Sierra’s NA petrol engine produces a peak power of 106 PS at 2100 rpm, suggesting drivers will get more power at lower rpm.
- Furthermore, the engine has a compression ratio of 13:1, which is higher than those on the Creta and Grand Vitara (10.5:1) and the Elevate (10.6:1). This should result in noticeably higher engine efficiency and fuel economy. However, engines with higher compression ratios often require higher octane fuel.
- Among the turbo-petrol engine rivals, the Sierra (160 PS / 255 Nm) stands right at the top, followed by the Creta and Seltos (160 PS / 253 Nm), and then by the Volkswagen and Skoda cars (150 PS / 250 Nm).
- It is worth noting that the Grand Vitara and the Toyota Hyryder are the only two options that offer a strong hybrid powertrain, which uses an electric battery and motor setup to help the engine and improve fuel economy (at the expense of the models’ prices). You can also opt for a CNG powertrain with these vehicles.
- The Sierrais is also available in a diesel powertrain (1.5-liter 4-cylinder), which produces the most power and torque in the segment (118 PS / up to 280 Nm), followed by the Hyundai’s 1.5-liter diesel engine (116 PS / 250 Nm).

- While all the other cars offer two-wheel drive, only the Grand Vitara and the Toyota Hyryder are available in four-wheel drive.
- Depending on the trim you choose, you can purchase all the vehicles with either a manual or automatic transmission.
- Barring the Maruti, Toyota, and Honda offerings, all the other cars have a 50-liter fuel tank.
- While other manufacturers offer smaller wheels on entry-level trims, Sierra offers 17-inch alloys right from the base model, like the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara and Toyota Hyryder.
Tata Sierra vs. Competition: Starting Price
| | Tata Sierra | Hyundai Creta | Kia Seltos | Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara | Toyota Hyryder | Honda Elevate | Volkswagen Taigun | Skoda Kushaq |
| Ex-Showroom Price | Rs. 11.49 lakhs | Rs. 10.72 lakhs | Rs. 10.79 lakhs | Rs. 10.76 lakhs | Rs. 10.94 lakhs | Rs. 10.99 lakhs | Rs. 11.39 lakhs | Rs. 10.61 lakhs |
The Sierra’s starting price is higher than all its competitors, but there are a couple of good reasons for it. For instance, the Sierra’s baseline variant, Smart+, offers features such as LED headlights, LED taillights, 17-inch steel wheels, flush door handles, push-button start/stop, electrically adjustable ORVMs, two USB-C charging ports up front, a rear window sunshade, and an electronic parking brake. All these features, along with the new 1.5-liter NA engine, justify the premium Tata is demanding over the other models.
Bookings for the Tata Sierra open on December 16, 2025, with deliveries beginning on January 15, 2025. However, dealerships have also started accepting unofficial bookings for the Sierra. Pricing of the other models is still under wraps.
