Tesla opens up its J1772 Supercharger for non-Tesla electric cars

Tesla has launched a home charger for electric vehicles for the North American market. Interestingly, the car charger is developed to charge non-Tesla electric cars. This is believed to be a smart move as there are currently no third-party home chargers from any reputed brand and Tesla can get the benefit to reach a wider audience. Going forward if Tesla EVs become a reality on Indian roads, this tech would matter to EV enthusiasts and customers in the country. Tesla J1772 Gen 2 Wall Connector Features

The new Tesla home charger comes with a J1772 plug which makes it distinct from the company’s usual wall connectors. The US electric carmaker calls it a Gen 2 wall connector as it expands the company’s home charging network.

The company suggest an expert technician to install the thing. The new connector comes with up to 9.6 kW (40 amp) power output for a single vehicle, a 24-foot (7.3 meters) cable length, multiple power settings, and a design that can be set both indoors and outdoors.

This new Tesla car home charger is aggressively priced at $415 (around Rs 31,000). The company has already commenced the sale of the J1772 Gen 2 Wall Connector through its official website. As for India, the car manufacturer is in talks with the government for tax relaxation before entering the subcontinent.
