Just as fans are processing the chaotic finale of Gen V Season 2, The Boys showrunner Eric Kripke has dropped a major status update on the flagship show’s fifth and final season.
In a new post on X (formerly Twitter), Kripke shared a selfie with the show’s visual effects team, confirming that the end is officially in sight.
“We’re hard at work finishing The Boys final season,” Kripke wrote. “Here’s some of the VFX team. Editing is done, we’re halfway finished with VFX, Music, Color. COMING (reasonably) SOON.”

What ‘Reasonably Soon’ Means for a Release Date
While Kripke’s “reasonably soon” is intentionally vague, the production details tell a clearer story. Filming for Season 5 officially wrapped back in July 2024. With editing now complete and the heavy VFX work halfway done, the show is deep in post-production.
Given the scale of The Boys, this timeline lines up perfectly with analyst and fan predictions. Season 4 arrived in June 2024, and a mid-2026 release date for Season 5 seems the most likely target.

Picking Up the Pieces of Gen V and Season 4
Kripke’s update couldn’t come at a better time. The final season of The Boys is set to be the franchise’s biggest crossover yet, picking up the dangling plot threads from both The Boys Season 4 and Gen V Season 2.
- Gen V’s Finale: The spin-off’s second season just ended with Marie, Jordan, Emma, and Andre officially joining Starlight’s underground resistance, setting them on a direct collision course with Homelander.
- The Boys S4 Cliffhanger: Meanwhile, Billy Butcher is on a ticking clock, and Homelander has effectively seized control of the White House through his puppet, Vice President-elect Victoria Neuman.

What We Know About the Final Showdown
Season 5 is poised to be the final, apocalyptic showdown between Butcher and Homelander. Amazon and Kripke have been clear that this is the end of the main story.
To help Butcher in his final fight, a major character is confirmed to return: Jensen Ackles will be back as Soldier Boy. Ackles, who sat out Season 4, is expected to play a significant role as one of the few “supes” alive who can go toe-to-toe with Homelander.
While fans now have a clearer picture of the production timeline, all eyes are on Prime Video for an official 2026 release date.
