A hot minute after Qualcomm dropped the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 SoC, the Chinese smartphone manufacturer has released the world’s first handsets to feature the chipset: Xiaomi 17, Xiaomi 17 Pro, and Xiaomi 17 Pro Max (sounds familiar, right?). The smartphones pack in all the top-tier specifications, such as a 1.5K OLED screen, triple high-resolution cameras, massive batteries, and Xiaomi’s HyperOS 3 operating system, which adds a couple of new features to the mix.

Xiaomi 17 Lineup: Key Specifications

First and foremost, the Xiaomi 17 features a 6.3-inch 1.5K 12-bit OLED screen with an LTPO panel (1-120Hz refresh rate), up to 3,500 nits peak brightness, and a resolution of 2656 x 1220 pixels.

While the Xiaomi 17 Pro also features the same display specifications, the Xiaomi 17 Pro Max boasts a larger 6.9-inch screen with a similar refresh rate, peak brightness, and slightly lower resolution.

Additional display-related features include support for HDR10+, Dolby Vision, 1,920 PWM Dimming, and DC Dimming. The vanilla Xiaomi 17 features Dragon Crystal Glass protection, while the Xiaomi 17 Pro comes with Shield Glass and Shield Glass 3.0.

What sets the Xiaomi 17 Pro and the Pro Max apart from the regular variant is the secondary display on the back of both phones. The Pro features a 2.7-inch screen, while the Pro Max sports a 2.9-inch screen, both of which support a 120Hz variable refresh rate, can shine as bright as 3,500 nits, and support DC Dimming.

All handsets in the lineup are powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 SoC, featuring up to 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM and up to 1TB of UFS 4.1 storage. We’ve covered the chipset’s launch extensively; it is by far the fastest and most efficient Qualcomm processor, which provides faster multi-core performance than the Apple A19 Pro.

Out of the box, the handsets will run on the HyperOS 3 operating system, which is based on Android 16. Regarding optics, the 17 features a 50MP (f/1.67) 1/1.31-inch primary sensor with Hyper OIS (and support for 8K video recording), a 50MP (f/2.0) Leica telephoto camera with 2.6x optical zoom (and 10cm minimum focusing distance), and another 50MP (f/2.4) ultrawide camera with a 102° field of view. On the front, buyers get a 50MP (f/2.2) selfie shooter.

While the primary and the ultrawide cameras are similar on the 17, 17 Pro, and 17 Pro Max, the 17 Pro features a 50MP (f/3.0) Infinifty Leica periscope telephoto camera that provides 5x optical zoom (minimum focusing distance of 20cm), while the 17 Pro Max features a 50MP (f/2.6) periscope telephoto camera (with a minimum focussing distance of 30cm). Other camera specifications remain the same.

The Xiaomi 17 features a 7,000 mAh battery, the 17 Pro boasts a 6,300 mAh battery, and the 17 Pro Max comes with the largest battery of all: 7,500 mAh. All the phones feature a 100W wired fast charging and 50W wireless charging. The phones also include magnetic charging.
