We’re a few months away from the iPhone 16 launch in September, and naturally, rumors about the new iPhones keep coming in regularly. The latest piece of information is about the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max’s bezels; a renowned tipster claims that the iPhones will ship with the thinnest bezels on any smartphone in the market, including the current generation Pro models and flagships from other brands.

iPhone 16 Pro Models To Feature Exceptionally Thin Bezels

Known tipster Ice Universe has leaked the dimensions of the purported iPhone 16 Pro Max. Apparently, the phone will measure 163.024mm x 77.575mm x 8.26mm. In comparison, the iPhone 15 Pro Max (released in 2023) measures 159.9mm x 76.7mm x 8.3mm. This indicates that the upcoming Pro Max variant could be slightly longer and wider but, at the same time, thinner than the current generation.

Interestingly, Apple is aiming to shrink down the iPhone 16 Pro Max’s bezel to 1.15mm, which is about 40 percent thinner than the panel bezels on the iPhone 15 Pro (1.71mm). Further, the iPhone 16 Pro could ship with 1.20mm bezels, which isn’t as thin as the Pro Max version, but even so, it could make the other phones in the market look outdated.

While we’re hovering over the subject, the iPhone 16 Pro Max could feature a 6.883-inch screen, which is larger than the iPhone 15 Pro Max’s 6.7-inch screen.

Here’s How The Number Compares To The Latest Android Flagship

Samsung’s latest flagship, the Galaxy S24 Ultra (review), features panel bezels that are 1.55mm thick. In other words, if the rumors about the iPhone 16 Pro Max’s bezels are true, it would mean that the handset will feature the narrowest bezels on any smartphone in the world. To achieve this, Apple has reportedly adopted Border Reduction Structure technology.

What Could The Thinner Bezels Mean For Reparability?

Now, while the reduced bezels would give the iPhone 16 Pro Max an amazing look, it would also raise some concerns we would like to address here. First, the exceptionally thin border could make the screen more prone to damage, especially if someone drops their iPhone. Second, manufacturing the screen with the thinnest bezels would increase Apple’s billing, which could, in turn, reflect the price of new iPhones and the cost of repairing the screen.

Here’s How Much Repairing The Current iPhone’s Screen Costs

iPhone 15 Pro Max screen repair cost

For now, if you crack the front screen of your iPhone 15 Pro Max, you’d have to pay Rs. 37,900 (without AppleCare+). However, if you’ve got accidental damage coverage via AppleCare+, you can get the repair done in Rs. 2,500. Similarly, repairing the iPhone 15 Pro’s cracked screen costs Rs. 30,500, but with AppleCare+, the cost comes down to rs. 2,500.

Since these screens have thicker bezels, we can assume that they cost the company less. However, with even thinner bezels, the repair cost will surely surge, implying that iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max users must be more careful with their devices. Looking at it from Apple’s vantage point, higher repair costs could drive more customers into getting AppleCare+ for their iPhones, increasing the company’s overall revenue.
