Vietnamese carmaker Vinfast has launched its third product in India, the Vinfast VF MPV 7, which as the name suggests, is Vinfast’s first MPV in India. The Vinfast VF MPV 7 has been launched in a single variant, priced at ₹24.49 lakh (ex-showroom) in India. The VF MPV 7 has been launched with a 60.13kWh battery which is claimed to offer a total range of 517 kilometers. The Vinfast VF MPV 7 goes in direct competition with the Kia Carens Clavis EV, which is Kia’s offering in the electric MPV range. While the Kia Carens Clavis starts at a lower price, the range-topping variant of the Carens Clavis EV is priced similarly. In this article, we will compare the newly-launched Vinfast VF MPV 7 with the Kia Carens Clavis to see which of these two is the better electric MPV.

Vinfast VF MPV 7 vs Kia Carens Clavis EV – Powertrain and Range

The VinFast VF MPV 7 uses a 60.13 kWh battery pack paired with a 204 hp, 280 Nm front-axle motor, with an ARAI-claimed range of 517 km. The Kia Carens Clavis EV offers two battery options — a 42 kWh pack which offers 404 km range and produces 135 hp of power and a 51.4 kWh Extended Range pack, which is claimed to offer 490 km of range and produce 171 bhp of power. Both the batteries on the Kia Carens Clavis EV produce 255 Nm of torque and driving the front wheels.

On paper, the VinFast has more power and a larger battery. In real-world testing, however, the Clavis EV’s 51.4 kWh variant returned approximately 360 – 370 km of combined real-world range, according to reviews online. VinFast’s real-world figures have not yet been independently tested at the time of writing.

In terms of charging speeds, the Vinfast VF MPV 7 supports up to 80 kW DC fast charging, hitting 10–70% in 30 minutes. The Kia Carens Clavis EV has faster charging speeds, supporting up to 100 kW DC fast charging, achieving 10–80% in 39 minutes.

Vinfast VF MPV 7 vs Kia Carens Clavis EV – Dimensions

VinFast VF MPV 7Kia Carens Clavis EV

Width1,872 mm1,800 mm
Height1,734 mm1,730 mm
Wheelbase2,840 mm2,780 mm
Boot space126 litresNot disclosed

The VinFast is larger in almost all dimensions compared to its rival. The longer wheelbase should translate to better third-row space in theory, though 126 litres of boot space with all three rows occupied sounds pretty tight.

Vinfast VF MPV 7 vs Kia Carens Clavis EV – Features and Interior

The VF MPV 7 cabin is minimalist in design. We get a single 10.1-inch screen that handles infotainment, instrumentation, and climate control simultaneously. It offers a powered driver’s seat, automatic climate control with tri-zone vents, 6 airbags, and wireless charging, but misses out on a sunroof, 360-degree camera, and ADAS.

The Clavis EV counters with a 26.62-inch dual panoramic display, a dual-pane panoramic sunroof, Bose 8-speaker audio, 64-colour ambient lighting, front ventilated seats, and V2L charging capability. It also comes with Level 2 ADAS with 20 autonomous safety features.

The feature gap is significant. The Clavis EV is meaningfully better equipped at an equivalent pricing.

Vinfast VF MPV 7 vs Kia Carens Clavis EV – Safety

Here also the Kia Carens Clavis EV comes on top. While the Vinfast VF MPV 7 comes with 4 airbags as standard, the Kia Carens Clavis EV comes with 6 airbags as standard. The Clavis EV adds Level 2 ADAS with radar and camera systems, ESC, rollover sensors, and all-wheel disc brakes. The VF MPV 7 has no ADAS suite — a notable omission at the ₹24.49 lakh price point, not to mention only 4 airbags also sounds like a bad deal.

Vinfast VF MPV 7 vs Kia Carens Clavis EV – Pricing

VariantPrice (ex-showroom)
Kia Carens Clavis EV (base, 42 kWh)₹17.99 lakh
Kia Carens Clavis EV (top, 51.4 kWh)₹24.49 lakh
VinFast VF MPV 7 (single variant)₹24.49 lakh

The Clavis EV gives buyers a meaningful entry point at ₹17.99 lakh. The VinFast comes only in one variant, pitched directly against the Clavis EV’s top spec — but without matching it on features.

Vinfast VF MPV 7 vs Kia Carens Clavis EV – Verdict

The VinFast VF MPV 7 brings a larger body, a bigger battery, and attractive ownership sweeteners — including a 7-year vehicle warranty, 10-year battery warranty, 3-year free maintenance, 75% buyback commitment, and free charging until March 2029. That ownership package is genuinely compelling and compensates for its sparse feature list to an extent.

But the Kia Carens Clavis EV wins on almost every features metric that matters — ADAS, display technology, audio, sunroof, and charging speed, and even safety. If the VinFast’s buyback and warranty assurances aren’t your priority, the Carens Clavis EV is the easily the better car at the same price.
