The most-valued tech company on the planet, Apple, is facing a strong decline in sales for the fourth consecutive quarter. The category-wise revenue breakup reveals that the iPhone, as a product, has held its ground in the slowdown, as its sales in the last quarter stood at $43.8 billion, higher than in the same quarter the previous year. However, the revenue from MacBooks has fallen by 34% year-over-year. Even though Apple has a couple of new products in its pipeline, it can take a few years to contribute to the overall revenue significantly.

Apple Needs Its “Next Big Thing”

In his report, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman writes that to boost its sales, Apple needs one of its “next big things.” Gurman suggests that the company needs a new innovative product unlike anything consumers have seen. In that respect, Apple is working on two things: Vision Pro, its mixed-reality headset, and an electric vehicle. However, even these options don’t appear as promising, and here’s why.

Here’s Why Apple Thinks Vision Pro Isn’t Going To Be An Immediate Hit

During a recent conference call with analysts, Apple’s CEO Tim Cook laid out a go-slow approach to selling the Vision Pro. The company knows there’s never been a product in the market that can blend in virtual and augmented reality like the headset. Cook plans to offer the device exclusively through its store to get more attention on the product. He says the company will provide demos in Apple Stores, and “it will be a very different process than the normal grab-and-go kind of process.”

In a previous report, Gurman mentioned how Apple would require users to make an appointment with the store staff to try the Vision Pro, and that could very well be the company’s strategy to delay everyone’s exposure to the product and create hype around it. Further, it will release the Vision Pro in the United States first, then in the United Kingdom and Canada.

There’s A Learning Curve Involved With Vision Pro

Ultimately, Vision Pro is a complicated product, and there will be a learning curve involved with it. Further, with different headband sizes and prescription lens attachments, it isn’t “going to be an easy product to sell.” To make the Vision Pro its “next big thing,” Apple needs to sell millions of units, and it knows that this will take time. Although Apple has stated now and then that India is one of the key markets, we haven’t heard when the company plans to bring the headset to the country.

Apple Watch To Get Two New Sensors In 2024

Gurman also touches on the company’s plan to include two new sensors on the Apple Watch in 2024. These include a blood pressure and a sleep apnea sensor. Further, the company is working on a paid health coach feature that will guide users and provide them insights on their activity, food, and other metrics that can improve health. However, providing a clearer timeline about the non-invasive blood pressure sensor, Gurman says that he expects the sensor to arrive later this decade.
