TL; DR
  • The vivo X Fold5 features a massive 6,000 mAh battery and a periscope, yet weighs only 209 grams and stays extremely thin at 4.3 mm unfolded.
  • It runs on Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, and has a 50MP main, 50MP ultra-wide, and 70mm 3x periscope telemacro camera setup.
  • The phone will launch in China this month and next month in India.

vivo’s X Fold5 seems to be one of the wildest foldables we’ve seen this year. After multiple teasers, leaks, and now official confirmations, we’re looking at a device that’s breaking many records. The biggest headline continues to be the insane 6,000 mAh battery, easily the largest we’ve seen on any foldable phone.

For perspective, Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold6 is still sticking to its 4,400 mAh unit, while vivo’s own X Fold3 Pro previously held the record at 5,700 mAh. This massive jump is possible thanks to fourth generation silicon-carbon anode battery tech, allowing more density without making the device bulky.

vivo X Fold5 will be the world’s lightest foldable despite packing a 6,000 mAh battery

Even with this giant battery, the X Fold5 is still expected to weigh just around 209 grams, making it the world’s lightest foldable to date. Its thickness stands at 4.3 mm when unfolded and 9.3 mm when folded, which is extremely slim for a book-style foldable of this size.

vivo X Fold5 will feature a flagship camera system

On the camera front, things are looking very familiar for anyone who has seen the vivo X200 series. The X Fold5 carries a 50MP ZEISS triple camera setup. The main camera features a 23mm lens, a large 1/1.56-inch sensor, and a bright f/1.57 aperture. The ultra-wide camera uses a 15mm lens with a 50MP sensor as well.

And the periscope unit offers 70mm focal length, f/2.55 aperture, and 3X optical zoom. The periscope also supports telemacro functionality, which we’ve already seen in some of the official camera samples showing close-up macro shots.

The most durable foldable yet

vivo X Fold5

As for durability, vivo seems to be going all in. The X Fold5 will support IPX8, IPX9, and IPX9+ waterproof ratings, along with IP5X dust proof certification. Simply put, this might be the most durable foldable we’ve seen so far. The device also comes with a side-mounted fingerprint scanner.

Under the hood, the X Fold5 will be powered by last year’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor, so performance does not seem to be a focus here. In China, the phone will run Origin OS 5, while the Indian variant is expected to come with Funtouch OS 15.

The vivo X Fold5 is scheduled to launch in China later this month, with India getting it next month. What are your thoughts on the vivo X Fold5? Let us know in the comments section below.
