vivo has confirmed that the vivo X200 Ultra and X200s will launch in China on April 21, following a month of cryptic teasers that began in late March. Just days before, on April 10, OPPO will unveil its Find X8 series, setting the stage for a fierce camera-focused showdown. Today, real-life images and a hands-on video of the vivo X200 Ultra have leaked, revealing a massive camera bump that’s nearly as thick as the phone itself.

vivo X200 Ultra: Design and Camera Bump Controversy

The leaked images and video showcase the X200 Ultra’s design, featuring a 6.82-inch micro-quad-curved BOE OLED display with a 2K+ resolution and 120 Hz refresh rate. The phone sports flat edges, a metal frame, and a new Action Button with a blue accent on the right side.

The Action Button is positioned similarly to the iPhone 16 Pro’s Action Button and the Oppo Find X8 Ultra’s Magic Cube key. The bottom edge houses a SIM slot, USB-C port, microphone, and speaker grille, while the back panel, available in white with a ridged texture and red with a matte finish, is dominated by a large circular camera module with ZEISS branding.

The camera bump, housing a triple-camera system, has drawn significant attention for its size. It includes a 50MP Sony LYT-818 (1/1.28-inch, 35mm, f/1.69) main camera, a 50MP Sony LYT-818 (1/1.28-inch, 14mm, f/1.69) ultra-wide, and a 200MP Samsung HP9 (1/1.4-inch, 85mm, f/2.27) periscope telephoto—all with 5-axis OIS.

The vivo VS1 pre-processing and V3+ post-processing chips enhance the setup, supporting 4K120 across all lenses. However, Chinese users on X have expressed discontent, noting the bump’s size compared to the OPPO Find X8 Ultra, which has a smaller camera module despite its 1-inch LYT-900 sensor.

Posts on X highlight the X200 Ultra’s bump as “HUGE FAT,” with some calling it “I can’t imagine how good it is to take photos.” Another Weibo user shared the thickness of the camera bump, and it is exactly 6.87 mm thick. This makes the bump thicker than the S25 Edge and the iPhone 17 Air, which are said to measure 5.84mm and 5.5mm, respectively.

Specifications and Competition

Powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset, the X200 Ultra will offer up to 24GB LPDDR5X RAM and 2TB UFS 4.0 storage. It’ll feature a 6,100 mAh battery with 90W wired and 50W wireless charging, similar to the Find X8 Ultra’s 6,100 mAh with 100W wired and 80W wireless charging.

The device will feature an IP68/IP69 rating, an ultrasonic fingerprint scanner, and a 50MP front camera. Compared to the iPhone 16 Pro Max, which has a smaller 48MP main sensor (1/1.28-inch, f/1.78) and a 12MP 5X telephoto, the X200 Ultra’s 200MP telephoto and consistent LYT-818 sensors across lenses promise superior zoom and low-light performance.

The X200 Ultra’s camera bump size reflects its focus on photography, but its design choice might alienate users prioritizing aesthetics, especially against the sleeker Find X8 Ultra. The April 21 launch will pit vivo against OPPO in China’s flagship market, with both devices leveraging Snapdragon 8 Elite chips and advanced camera systems.
