TL; DR
  • vivo has officially confirmed most of the camera specs of the upcoming vivo X300 series.
  • vivo X300: 200MP HPB main sensor + 50MP LYT-602 ZEISS APO 70mm telephoto with telemacro support + 50MP JN5 UW
  • vivo X300 Pro: 50MP Sony LYT-828 main with gimbal-level stabilization + 200MP HPB ZEISS APO 85mm telephoto + 50MP JN5 UW
  • Both models finally get upgraded 50MP AF selfie cameras. Launch expected in China by October, India by late November or December.

Earlier this week, we got a look at the vivo X300 series’ camera specs. It was confirmed that both devices will use the HPB sensor, made in partnership with Samsung. HPB will serve as the main camera on the X300 and as the telephoto on the X300 Pro.

Now, vivo has revealed even more, including full details on the X300’s telephoto, the Pro’s main camera, and a proper upgrade for the selfie camera (which was a weak spot on the last generation). Let’s take a look.

vivo X300

The standard vivo X300 is centered on a ZEISS 200MP ISOCELL HPB “super main camera.” It’s a 1/1.4-inch custom sensor with ZEISS T* coating, blue glass to cut stray light, CIPA 4.5 stabilization, and multi-frame fusion algorithms.

And for the first time on a non-Pro model, the telephoto gets a serious upgrade. The X300 includes a 50MP ZEISS APO super periscope telephoto built on the Sony LYT-602 sensor. It will come with ZEISS coating and stabilization, and also double as a telemacro lens for close-ups.

The ultra-wide camera hasn’t officially been confirmed but leaks suggest it will be using the Samsung JN5 sensor.

vivo X300 Pro

The vivo X300 Pro will raise the stakes with the world’s first co-customized Sony LYT-828gimbal-grade” sensor. It’s a 50MP 1/1.28-inch sensor with f/1.57 aperture, CIPA 5.5 stabilization, Hybrid Frame-HDR for a 100dB dynamic range, and vivo’s VCS 3.0 color processing. It’s designed for extreme low light and high-contrast scenarios.

The telephoto here is the big story. The Pro gets a custom 200MP ISOCELL HPB “Thanos” periscope telephoto, also on a 1/1.4-inch sensor. vivo insists this is not just any 200MP lens, but a tuned version with ZEISS coatings and specialized algorithms.

It might just be the best telephoto on any phone, potentially even outperforming the X200 Ultra. The focal has been confirmed to be 85mm, but we don’t know the aperture yet. Additionally, the phone will be using a dual-chip imaging solution with VS1 and V3+ combined.

Early teasers from the company back this up, showing parade footage where zoomed-in tank tire textures remain visible even after heavy zoom. However, that was just a screen recording of the image and we don’t yet have access to the camera samples.

Selfie Cameras Finally Get Some Love

One of the main complaints about the X200 and even the X100 Pro was the selfie cameras. vivo has addressed that this time. Both X300 models get a ZEISS 50MP AF ultra-clear selfie with a 92-degree wide angle. You can see the difference in the image below.

vivo X300 Series Release Date

The vivo X300 series is expected to launch in China around October. An India release should follow in late November or December. With OPPO also teasing its Find X9 series, it looks like both brands are gearing up for a direct clash in the flagship market. Which series are you excited for? Let us know in the comments below.
