After several fire accidents with electric scooters, a video of a burning Tata Nexon EV has been all over the internet today. The video is from Mumbai’s Vasai West region. Tata Motors has officially acknowledged the event and put out a response.
Tata Nexon EV fire accident
The white-coloured Tata Nexon EV was engulfed in flames near Panchvati Hotel in Vasai West, Mumbai. While short-circuiting is believed to be the reason behind the fire break but the actual cause is still not clear.
In the viral video, the Nexon EV is parked at the roadside when a fire broke out from the rear side of the car. Thankfully, the front portion of the car and its wheel remain unharmed. Immediately after the fire broke, it was extinguished before it could spread to other parts of the car.
Acknowledging the incident, Tata Motor put out an official statement that said, “A detailed investigation is currently being conducted to ascertain the facts of this isolated incident. We will share a detailed response thereafter. We remain committed to the safety of our vehicles and their users. This is the first such incidence after more than 30,000 EVs have cumulatively covered over 100 million km across the country in nearly 4 years.”

Tata Nexon EV is the highest-selling electric car in India. We hope Tata Motors carry out a thorough investigation and make the report public to ensure people’s faith in EVs doesn’t take a hit.
Tata Nexon EV brief specs
Tata Nexon EV comes with a built-in 30.2kWh battery pack and a motor producing 129bhp and a peak torque of 245Nm. Its ARAI-certified distance range is 312km per charge. The battery can be charged completely in 8 hours with a regular charger while a DC fast charger can juice it up from 0 to 80% in 60 minutes.
Last month, Tata launched Nexon EV Max to offer an improved range of 437km per charge. It packs a bigger 40.5kWh of lithium-ion battery setup to offer 33 per cent improved performance than the original variant.
