Wear OS is a powerful operating system for wearables. Since Google and Samsung joined hands on the development, the result has been a seamless operating system that supports multiple apps and provides seamless connectivity with smartphones. Currently, Wear OS 4 happens to be the latest version. However, the companies will soon release an upgraded version.

Wear OS 5 Could Debut With Galaxy Watch 7

According to a report by 9To5Google, Samsung and Google are working on Wear OS 5. The next iteration of the operating system for wearables will be based on Android 14. In 2023, Samsung’s Galaxy Watch 6 came out with Wear OS 4 based on Android 13. Now, as per information viewed by the publication, “Samsung is actively working to support a build of Android 14.”

Wear OS 5 Will Break The Current Update Cycle

The next generation of Wear OS, i.e., Wear OS 5, will debut on the Galaxy Watch 7. It will run on an updated Exynos chipset. Given the release pattern, the operating system will first come out in the Samsung wearable, which generally comes out in August. It will be followed by the Google Pixel Watch 3, which could come out in October. However, it is important to mention that these are tentative dates, and the brands haven’t confirmed anything.

What’s unique about Wear OS 5 is that it will break the current release cycle. Until now, Wear OS has skipped Android versions. While the latest version is available on Android 13, Wear OS 3 was based on Android 11, while the previous version was on Android 9. However, Wear OS 5 might break this cycle, competing with smartphone update cycles.

Nonetheless, there’s no information on the features or upgrades that could come to Wear OS 5. However, more information about the upcoming wearable operating system should appear in the coming days.
