TL; DR
- WhatsApp has started rolling out native voice and video calling on WhatsApp Web, so you can make one-on-one calls directly from your browser.
- The feature is currently in beta and only available to some users right now, with a wider rollout expected over the next few weeks.
- WhatsApp still hasn’t rolled out group calls on the web yet.
WhatsApp Web is finally catching up to what the desktop apps have offered for years. Yes, WhatsApp has started rolling out voice and video calling directly inside the browser, starting with one-on-one calls for beta users. If you have access, you’ll see the familiar voice and video buttons at the top of an individual chat, and you can start a call without installing the Windows or Mac desktop app.
WhatsApp continues to use end-to-end encryption for calls, and the browser version also supports features that desktop users already know, including screen sharing.

This update also improves the experience for platforms like Linux, where WhatsApp never offered an official desktop client. Now, the browser becomes the full solution.

Earlier reports from late January 2026 said WhatsApp was also preparing group calling for WhatsApp Web, including support for up to 32 participants, call links, and call scheduling. This first phase focuses on one-on-one calls, likely to keep the rollout stable before WhatsApp expands it further.
If you don’t see calling buttons yet, WhatsApp is still rolling it out gradually, so it may take a few weeks to reach all accounts.
