Apple is expected to unveil the iPhone 17 lineup in September 2025, alongside the 17 Air, 17 Pro, and 17 Pro Max. While the Pro and Pro Max will still be positioned as the ultimate flagships, this year’s standard iPhone 17 could be the one that hits the sweet spot for the majority of buyers. It’s not just about a single headline upgrade; it’s about a carefully balanced mix of features, size, performance, and price that finally makes the regular iPhone a no-brainer.
1. A Cleaner, Easier Lineup to Choose From

As per leaks, Apple will be moving on from the “Plus” model, which felt like an awkward middle ground. Big screen, but missing premium features. The 2025 lineup is simpler: iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Air, and the two Pro models. For anyone who just wants a straightforward choice without overthinking specs or sizes, this is a much cleaner approach.
2. A Perfectly Sized, More Immersive 120 Hz Display

The iPhone 17 grows slightly to a 6.3-inch display, up from the 6.1 inches on the iPhone 16. It’s a small change on paper but makes a noticeable difference in everyday use: more space for typing, watching videos, or gaming, without feeling oversized in the hand. The bezels are getting slimmer too, so you’re getting more screen without adding much to the size.
This isn’t just about size though. Apple is finally giving the standard iPhone an LTPO OLED panel with ProMotion 120 Hz refresh rate. This brings buttery-smooth scrolling, faster-feeling animations, and an overall more premium experience. And because it’s adaptive, the refresh rate drops when you’re looking at static content, helping battery life too.

3. Performance That Matches Real-World Needs

The iPhone 17 is expected to run on Apple’s new A19 chip, built on a more efficient 3nm process. You’ll get fast app launches, smooth multitasking (within the limits of iOS I guess), and enough headroom for iOS updates and new AI features for years. With 8GB of RAM, it’s also expected to be well-equipped for the latest Apple Intelligence tools (if you care about those) and heavier apps without slowing down. It’s more-than-fine for most people.
4. Cameras That Cover Almost Every Scenario

Apple’s camera approach this year, with the iPhone 17, seems to be about refinement. You’ll still get the excellent 48MP main camera with a 2X sensor crop mode, paired with a 12MP ultra-wide for landscapes and group shots. But the big upgrade will be on the front, now with a 24MP selfie camera with better low-light performance and sharper detail.
I don’t think most people need more than this. Yes, sure, having a zoom camera is always welcome, but that’s up to the user. The iPhone 17, just like previous iPhones, is going to be great for videos, making content creation simpler and easier (especially with the Voice Isolation feature).
5. Better Charging and Battery

Battery life is one of the biggest decision factors for buyers, and the iPhone 17 doesn’t cut corners (at least as per the leaks). The combination of a roughly 3,500 to 3,700 mAh battery, the efficiency of the A19 chip, and the LTPO display should easily see you through a full day.
Charging is expected to be faster too, with up to 35W wired and a jump to 25W wireless charging with Qi 2.2-compatible pads. There are also whispers of reverse wireless charging (since the iPhone 12 days but okay) for accessories like AirPods or an Apple Watch, adding convenience in those “forgot to charge” moments.
Final Thoughts

Compared to the iPhone 15, this is a much more premium experience, giving you a bigger and smoother display, better selfie camera, rear cameras, and more efficient chip. Even against the iPhone 16, which brought the Action Button and Camera Control button, the 17 feels like the model that ties it all together.
The lack of ProMotion was always the big drawback of the non-Pro models, and now that it’s here, there’s less reason to stretch for the Pro unless you really need its exclusive extras like the zoom camera. My only fear is that the iPhone 17 might again start at 128GB, which is outdated. The base model should be 256GB.
And thanks to the tariffs, we might also see a ₹5,000 or $50 increase in the price of the iPhone 17. Nonetheless, the iPhone 17 could still be a great deal in my opinion after you account for all the offers and bonuses. What do you think? Let me know in the comments section below.
