TL; DR
  • X is currently experiencing an outage affecting web, iOS, and Android users.
  • Feeds are not loading properly, with posts failing to appear or loading inconsistently.
  • There is no official timeline yet on when service will be fully restored.

UPDATED on 17 January 2026 at 00:33 IST: Twitter is now back online.

Yes, Twitter is down. X is down. And no, it’s not just you.

X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter, is facing a service disruption that has left many users unable to load posts across multiple platforms. Reports started surfacing on January 16, 2026, with users on web browsers, iPhones, and Android devices all seeing similar issues.

For most affected users, timelines either fail to refresh entirely or load only partially, with posts appearing sporadically. In some cases, the app opens but does not populate the feed, while others encounter repeated loading errors. The issue does not appear to be universal, as some users report intermittent access or normal behavior.

So far, X has not released an official statement explaining the cause of the outage or providing an estimated time for resolution. There is also no indication yet whether the disruption is linked to backend issues, regional server problems, or a broader infrastructure failure.

Outages of this kind have occurred occasionally in the past, typically resolving without user action once services stabilize. Until then, you may continue to see inconsistent behavior across the app and website.
