Xiaomi and Leica announced their partnership in the mobile camera development space in May 2022 and later unveiled the Xiaomi 12S Ultra with Leica cameras, making it the company’s first handset to be outfitted with Leica lenses.

The business is currently preparing to offer the next Leica-equipped smartphone globally, including in India. The Xiaomi 13 Pro, which first appeared in China in December 2022, is likely to arrive in India this month.

Xiaomi highlighted that their collaboration entails more than merely licensing the brand name in order to advertise the cameras. Xiaomi’s camera experts are collaborating with Leica to co-develop and update the cameras. To get greater quality imaging, the teams adhere to a rigid protocol. Defining image quality targets based on parameters such as color tones, details, dynamic range, processing technique, and others is part of the process.

  • The cooperative development of the optical design of the camera module follows.
  • Integration of module components to get the appropriate shape and size so that it may fit in a phone without being too thick.
  • Examine the cameras for vignette, chromatic aberration, flare, and other flaws.
  • Co-create AI-enabled image processing and algorithms.
  • Finally, image quality is tested in the lab and outside and is fine-tuned to meet the targets.
