After dropping the Xiaomi 14 and Xiaomi 14 Pro, the company is gearing up to launch the Xiaomi 14 Ultra. Last week, we reported that the smartphone could come with a four-camera setup, feature the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC, and 90W wired charging. Now, more information about the handset has surfaced online.

Xiaomi 14 Ultra To Feature Satellite Connectivity

Per a report by Gizmochina, the Xiaomi 14 Ultra will arrive with satellite communication abilities. Currently, the feature is only available on the iPhone 14 and 15. The models in these lineups can connect to low-orbiting satellites for calling emergency services if the users are stuck in an area without cellular coverage. However, it is unclear whether satellite communication on the Xiaomi 14 Ultra will enable the same feature or come with a different implementation.

The report also mentions how Xiaomi’s top-of-the-line smartphone will have an ultrasonic fingerprint scanner. Unlike regular optical scanners that shine visible light on the fingertips and capture an image of the reflection, ultrasonic sensors rely on high-frequency sound waves that create a three-dimensional image of the users’ fingerprint, making them more secure. Further, such sensors are quicker as well.

Enthusiasts Should Expect A Telephoto Macro Camera Too

Xiaomi 14 Ultra leaked specs suggests 50MP quad-camera with variable aperture

Last but not least, the Xiaomi 14 Ultra is also tipped to feature a telephoto macro camera. This could mean one of two things. First, unlike other smartphones in the market, the telephoto sensor might double as a macro sensor. Second, the focal length of the telephoto lens could click pictures of tiny subjects like an ant or a flower.

Further, Xiaomi has also developed a solution that should make coordination between the four lenses seamless. Until now, we’ve seen how Android phones’ cameras experience a sharp jerk when switching between lenses, as opposed to smooth switching on iPhones. The Xiaomi 14 Ultra could launch in March or April 2024.
