In March 2021, the Chinese smartphone manufacturer Xiaomi announced that it will join the EV manufacturing race soon. Ever since, there hasn’t been much buzz about the company’s electric vehicles until November 15, 2023, when Xiaomi’s first EV, SU7, surfaced on the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology. Here’s everything we know about the Xiaomi SU7.

Xiaomi EV To Come In Three Models

Per the regulator, Xiaomi’s first EV will come in three models, including SU7, SU7 Pro, and SU7 Max, which sounds inspired by the current smartphone naming convention. Nonetheless, the company could beat Apple by releasing its first EV sooner than expected. Beijing Automotive Industry Holding Co. Ltd (BAIC) will manufacture Xiaomi’s first EV in three models, as mentioned above.

Xiaomi SU7 Design

At the front, the car has a two-layer headlamp design with aerodynamic pockets toward the bottom. The front grill doesn’t have a lot of metallic accents or loud designs. Instead, the company has gone for a minimal finish, except for the air vents.

The alloy-finish wheels give the vehicle a classy appeal, along with the sober side panels with the unlock handle and curvy roofline. On the back, one can see the company’s badging in the center, above the taillight that runs from one end to the other. Below the taillight, we have two design elements that look like the exhaust vents, except this car doesn’t have any.

Xiaomi SU7 Drivetrain Details

At its core, the SU7 is an electric sedan measuring 4997 x 1963 x 1455 mm, with a wheelbase of 3000 mm. The EV will offer two wheels, including 19-inch (245/45 R19) and 20-inch (245/40 R20) options. The powertrain includes two options: rear-wheel drive with a 220 kW motor and all-wheel drive with a maximum power of 495 kW. The curb weight for the lower trim is 1,980 kg, while that of the higher trim is 2,205 kg.

The five-seater vehicle will also feature the ETC function, which allows drivers to pay tolls automatically without stopping their car for longer durations at the toll booths. It is important to mention that the listing doesn’t reveal the most crucial aspect of an electric vehicle: its range. Nonetheless, the electric motor with the model number TZ220XS000 is sourced from United Automotive Electronics Co. Ltd.

Xiaomi SU7’s Top Speed

The top speed of the lower trim is limited to 210 km/h, whereas that of the higher trim is 265 km/h. However, whether all three models will feature the same motors on the entry-level and top-tier variants is unclear. The four-door sedan will also feature a lidar sensor on at least one of its variants, where the sensor should be installed behind the windshield. Further, the listing reveals a camera on the B pillar, indicating that the SU7 could feature facial recognition unlocking.

SU7 To Run On HyperOS

Xiaomi HyperOS

Xiaomi’s SU7 will run on the company’s latest HyperOS operating system, the one that’s shipping with the Xiaomi 14 smartphone series. Regarding the EV’s availability, it will enter mass production in December 2023 and should be available to purchase in February 2024. The BAIC has already begun trial production of the electric sedan. Since the regulator listing has revealed most of the details, there’s a good chance that the company will announce the EV soon.
