TL; DR
  • Mahindra launched the XUV 3XO ZNG CNG SUV from ₹9.99 lakh.
  • Twin cylinders sit under the boot floor, and the boot measures 270 liters.
  • It claims 24.7 km/kg, with about 110 hp and 200 Nm.

Amid the ethanol-blending chaos, the slight shift toward CNG and diesel, and the notion that CNG powertrains aren’t as capable as regular turbo petrol or NA engines, the Mahindra XUV 3XO ZNG stands out as an exception. It’s the first car in India to match the exact power and torque numbers in both petrol and CNG modes.

The XUV 3XO ZNG starts at ₹9.99 lakh (ex-showroom) for the MX Edge and tops out at ₹12.27 lakh for the REVX A. The ₹2.28 lakh premium is spread across four trims, giving buyers more options. Its two direct rivals, the Tata Nexon CNG and Maruti Brezza CNG, start at lower prices, though sources disagree on the exact figures. Deliveries commence from October 20, 2026.

Mahindra XUV 3XO ZNG: Five Things That Set It Apart

  1. Twin cylinders under the boot floor: Mahindra uses two CNG cylinders side by side beneath a raised floor. While exact cylinder capacity varies by source, most cite 30 liters per cylinder.
  2. The inclusion of a spare wheel: The boot space, minus the CNG cylinders, is 270 liters, against 321 for the Nexon CNG and 328 for the Brezza CNG. It should still be enough for three to four small-sized cabin luggage bags. What’s great is that the company has included a spare wheel.
  3. Turbo performance, mostly intact. The 1.2-liter three-cylinder turbo-petrol produces about 110 hp and 200 Nm, with 0-100 km/h in 11.8 seconds. Power and torque match in petrol and CNG modes, thanks to turbo calibration, engine-computer mapping, and 10-bar fuel injection pressure.
  4. CNG mileage: As seen in several walkaround videos of the new car, it can also show per-kilogram mileage when the car is running in CNG mode, something that most other offerings lack in this segment.
  5. Dual-fuel controls. A CNG-and-petrol switch sits on the dashboard above the start/stop button, and the instrument cluster shows both fuel levels.

Its claimed 24.7 km/kg also trails the Brezza’s 26.9, which is expected given its higher peak power and torque.

I’d call this the pick for buyers who dread a sluggish drive. The trade-offs are a significantly smaller boot and a slightly higher starting price than rivals. Even so, the car has the longest wheelbase of the three at 2,600 mm, yet the smallest boot, so I’d load your own luggage before booking.
