TL; DR

  • The realme 14 Pro+ features a cold-sensitive color-changing back panel, which shifts from Pearl White to blue below 16°C.
  • It includes a triple-camera setup with “MagicGlow” flash, Snapdragon 7s Gen 3, quad-curved display, and IP68/IP69 durability, unlike the dual-camera, standard-curved 14 Pro.
  • Cold-sensitivity may fade after a year or with sunlight/UV exposure.

realme just unveiled the realme 14 Pro series, showcasing a design approach that stands out in the mid-range segment. The highlight is the realme 14 Pro+ with its cold-sensitive color-changing back panel, a first-of-its-kind feature. Unlike sunlight-sensitive designs, this panel shifts from Pearl White to blue when exposed to temperatures below 16 degrees Celsius.

This design was developed in collaboration with Copenhagen-based Valeur Designers, which is a unique 30-step process that ensures no two Pearl White panels look the same. One thing to note is that this cold sensitivity will wear off after a year or so, or even earlier if you expose it to the sunlight or UV rays too much.

Since the launch is in winters, most initial buyers should be able to experience and enjoy the cold-sensitive color-changing back panel on the realme 14 Pro+. It’s not very functional but definitely something unique and nice-to-have. Notably, the device will also be available in a leather-back finish.

MagicGlow Triple-Flash

The realme 14 Pro+ also features a triple-camera setup paired with a “MagicGlow” triple-flash system for enhanced night-time portraits. However, the realme 14 Pro will only feature a dual-camera configuration.

Display

On the front, the realme 14 Pro+ will feature a 93.8% screen-to-body ratio with ultra-thin 1.6mm bezels, creating a near-borderless display. The display would also be quad-curved here. The realme 14 Pro will ship with a standard curved display, and not a quad-curved one, though.

Other Specifications

Such cold temperatures mean that you also need good protection on the device. Hence, the device is also IP66, IP68, and IP69-certified, ensuring protection against water and drops, and TÜV Rheinland certification adds to its durability credentials.

realme also confirmed that the realme 14 Pro+ will be powered by the Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 SoC and running realme UI 6.0. The realme 14 Pro+ also has a periscope telephoto camera, something absent from the standard Pro model.

The realme 14 Pro series has definitely gotten even more intriguing with this new design and the advanced periscope system, and we can’t wait for realme to launch the series in India. The launch is in January 2025.

“We’ve fused cutting-edge tech, like the world’s first cold-sensitive color-changing design, with unique aesthetics to create a smartphone that’s not just functional but a true expression of personal style. We want to empower young people to dare to leap and showcase their individuality,” said Chase Xu, Vice President and CMO of realme.
