YouTube adds UPI Payment Method for Premium Subscriptions

YouTube has now added UPI payments on the India app making it easy for customers to enroll for YouTube Premium or YouTube Music subscription.

“Aiming to bring added convenience to its users, YouTube has launched UPI as a new form of payment for both YouTube and YouTube Music. In addition to the earlier options of credit and debit cards, now YouTube users will be able to make easy payments through UPI, which is one of the most preferred forms of digital payments in India,” said Google in an official statement.

With the growing popularity of UPI payments in India, YouTube now enables users to purchase premium subscriptions with an easy method. YouTube offers monthly and quarterly prepaid subscriptions for YouTube Premium and YouTube Music, as well as options to buy or rent movies. The newly availed UPI payment option will also work smoothly with SuperChat- a YouTube live-streaming feature and also for purchasing individual channel memberships.

Users will need a registered UPI ID to proceed with the payments. YouTube will support all major UPI payment channels including BHIM, PhonePe, GooglePay, Paytm, Mobikwik and more. In recent years, the UPI payments have gained popularity since they are convenient, secure and fast.

As reported earlier, YouTube is also creating its own short-video streaming feed called ‘Shorts’ in its existing application. YouTube Shorts will allow users to create and post short videos as TikTok does. This will be introduced to users by the end of 2020.
