Infinix S5 Pro Review
#ExpertReview
The Infinix S5 Pro is a design-focused affordable phone. That’s a good thing because traditionally design hasn’t been a preference for affordable phones. Apart from the trendy pop-up, the S5 Pro also has a decent camera, assuring battery, and Android 10-based software.
The main highlight of Inifinix S5 Pro is its massive, uninterrupted full-view screen. As we have iterated time and again, screens without notches do feel more immersive. Unless an OEM is going out of its way to accommodate a slim and compact profile favoring one-hand usage, we’d gladly accept a pop-up module over any of the notch styles.
The IPS LCD panel measures 6.5-inch and has full HD+ resolution. The screen is quite sharp and the brightness is comparable to what we get on most affordable phones. The panel quality is about average. The white point is cool and there is the characteristic harsh blue tint that we have come to associate with affordable phone displays.
This is the section where Infinix is cutting a few corners. The S5 Pro is driven by MediaTek Helio P35 octa-core SoC, which is 12nm process based octa-core chipset that was introduced early last year. This is not a particularly powerful chipset and that reflects in the performance. S5 Pro is not a snappy phone and it’s not meant for demanding gamers. The SoC is still good enough to take you through light and moderate day-to-day workloads.
The Infinix S5 Pro camera turned out to be better than what we had expected. That doesn’t mean it can beat more expensive affordable phones. The images are far from perfect, but what the S5 Pro offers feels perfectly apt for the price.
Battery backup is quite good. The 4000mAh battery can comfortably last for more than a day and at times even for 2 days. Fast charging isn’t supported, though.
- Immersive full-view display
- Battery backup
- Decent camera performance
- Middling performance
- XOS 6 interface needs refinement
