TL;DR

  • The 2024 Maruti Dzire could be the beginning of a new era for the company.
  • It is the first car by the automaker to achieve a perfect safety score on GNCAP.
  • When compared to the old Dzire, which scores two stars for adult and two stars for child protection, the fourth generation Dzire is a drastic improvement for the company.
  • The report also highlights how Maruti Suzuki submitted the new car to the organization for voluntary crash testing.

To everyone’s surprise, the new Maruti Dzire has scored a perfect score in the GNCAP crash tests. For years, the Maruti Suzuki has consistently sold the most cars in India, dispatching close to 1,59,000 vehicles just last month (October 2024). While the brand makes some of the most affordable and reliable vehicles, it has been criticized for one particular aspect: safety and, more importantly, crash test ratings.

2024 Maruti Dzire Shocks with Unexpected GNCAP Safety Score (1)

Well, it looks like the 2024 Maruti Dzire could be the beginning of a new era for the company, where it starts putting in more effort to score better in crash test results and, in turn, making safer cars than ever. According to a report published by Global NCAP, considered a benchmark in crash test ratings, the new Maruti Suzuki Dzire “has scored a 5-star result for adult and four stars for child occupant safety.”

It is important to highlight here that the new Maruti Dzire is the first car by the automaker to achieve a perfect safety score on GNCAP. The organization’s crash test protocols assess a vehicle on several parameters, such as the frontal and side impact on passengers, along with safety features like Electronic Stability Control (ESC). Thankfully, the new Dzire has six airbags, ESC, and pedestrian protection as standard, which unlocks a 5-star GNCAP crash test rating.

  • Safety equipment for side crash protection: side-head curtain airbag, side chest airbag.
  • Child protection: ISOFIX for rear seats.

  • GTR 9 – UN 127 Pedestrian Proteciton.

When compared to the old Dzire, which scores two stars for adult and two stars for child protection, the fourth generation Dzire is a drastic improvement for the company. “The structural and footwell area were rated as stable and can withstand further loadings,” the report adds. Further, the car includes i-Size anchorages as standard, marginal chest protection for the driver dummy, and full head protection (in pole test).

This Marks A New Era Of #SafeCarsForIndia

The report also highlights how Maruti Suzuki submitted the new car to the organization for voluntary crash testing. While this would surely boost the sales of the vehicle, it also marks the beginning of a new era for the Indian automotive industry. The new Dzire’s 5-star GNCAP rating signals a shift in Maruti’s approach, aligning with increasing consumer awareness and demand for safer vehicles. We would also want to see a similar crash test rating for other Maruti cars on the market.
