AMD announces Ryzen 9000 Series Zen 5 & Ryzen 5000XT Series AM4 Processors for Desktops

AMD, the leading semiconductor manufacturer has announced a flurry of processor series for desktops globally. These include the next-gen AMD Ryzen 9000 Series of processors based on AM5 platforms with PCIe 5.0, along with the Ryzen 5000XT Series and Ryzen AI 300 Series. The announcements were made at the Computex 2024 event.

Availability of new processors

The AMD Ryzen 9000 and Ryzen 5000 Series desktop processors will be available to DIY customers and SI partners next month (July 2024). The pricing will be revealed by AMD soon.

AMD Ryzen 9000 Series: Features

The next-generation AMD Ryzen 9000 Series promises a 16% better IPC performance than its predecessors based on Zen4 architecture. The top model is the Ryzen 9950X which promises the fastest consumer desktop experience globally.

The granite ridge series includes four models of processors-

  • AMD Ryzen 9 9950X- 16 cores, 32 threads, 80MB Cache, 170W TDP, speed up to 5.7GHz/4.3GHz.
  • AMD Ryzen 9 9900X- 12 cores, 24 threads, 76MB Cache, 120W TDP, speed up to 5.6GHz/4.4GHz.
  • AMD Ryzen 7 9700X- 8 cores, 16 threads, 40MB Cache, 65W TDP, speed up to 5.5GHz/3.8GHz.
  • AMD Ryzen 5 9600X- 6 cores, 12 threads, 38MB Cache, 65W TDP, speed up to 5.4GHz/3.9GHz.

The manufacturer has compared the productivity of the Ryzen 9000 Series to Intel Core i9 14900K processors.

AMD Ryzen 5000XT Series: Features

  • AMD has added Ryzen 9 5900XT and Ryzen 5800XT Processors to the Ryzen 5000 Series desktop processor family. It includes two models-
  • AMD Ryzen 9 5900XT- 16 cores, 32 threads, 72MB Cache, 105W TDP, Gen 4 PCIe, speed up to 4.8GHz/3.3GHz.
  • AMD Ryzen 7 5800XT- 8 cores, 16 threads. 36MB Cache, 105W TDP, Gen 4 PCIe, speed up to 4.8GHz/3.8GHz.

AMD has compared Ryzen 9 5900XT with Intel Core i7 3700L and Ryzen 7 5800XT with Intel Core i5 13600KF processors.

AMD X870E & X870: Features

AMD has also introduced new AMD X870E and X870 processors. These come with USB4, DDR5, PCIe 5.0, and WiFi 7 support. Socket AMD5 platforms are durable with support through 2027 and beyond, said AMD.

These two chipsets feature USB4 as a standard feature and are also designed to support faster DDR5 memory overclocking with AMD EXPO technology.

X870 and X870E feature 44 total PCIe lanes and direct-to-processor PCIe NVMe connectivity for the fastest transfer speeds. At the same time, X870E has 24 PCIe 5.0 lanes with 16 lanes dedicated to graphics. PCe 5.0 direct-to-processor storage and graphics care are both enabled together. X870E offers twice the bandwidth of competing platforms, said AMD.
