TL;DR
  • Apple iPhone 16 has become the best-selling smartphone in the world in Q1 2025.
  • Counterpoint research claims five Apple models in the top 10 smartphones list.
  • Other phones include Galaxy S25 Ultra, Redmi 14C & more.

Apple’s newest iPhone 16 series has secured the top three positions in the best-selling phone rankings for the first quarter of 2025. In total, five iPhones are featured in the top 10 list, which also includes one of the more affordable Xiaomi models.

This week, Counterpoint Research released data indicating that the iPhone 16 has earned the title of the best-selling smartphone in the initial months of 2025. Additionally, the lineup includes the iPhone 16 Pro models, the previous iPhone 15, and Samsung’s newest flagship, the Galaxy S25.

List of Top 10 Best-Selling Smartphones

The company has released a compilation of the top 10 smartphones, which includes iPhones, Samsung Galaxy devices, and a single Redmi phone.

1. iPhone 16

2. iPhone 16 Pro Max

3. iPhone 16 Pro

4. iPhone 15

5. Samsung Galaxy A16 5G

6. Samsung Galaxy A06

7. Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra

8. Redmi 14C 4G

9. Samsung Galaxy A55 5G

10. iPhone 16 Plus

As demonstrated here, Apple continues to be the clear leader in the premium market segment. The new iPhone 16, 16 Plus, and both 16 Pro models have secured positions in the top 10. According to the report, the iPhone 16 performed strongly in regions such as Japan, the Middle East, and Africa, attributed to Apple’s advantageous pricing strategy.

The iPhone 16 Pro encountered competition from Huawei in China; however, overall, their demand represented a significant portion of Apple’s sales. Notably, the report indicates that the newly launched iPhone 16e model has had a strong debut since its release in March 2025, already securing the sixth position for the month.

Samsung features several models on the list, including the Galaxy S25 Ultra at position 7, with the mid-range Galaxy A16 5G and the budget-friendly Galaxy A06 models ranked above it.

The Redmi 14C 4G is the sole model that prevented the list from turning into a clear duopoly, demonstrating its strength in emerging markets. Although Xiaomi has attempted to penetrate the premium segment, data like this indicates that its value-oriented products remain the preferred choice.

Currently, these industry reports have become quite predictable, dominated by two main brands. A solid range of products from brands that have restricted their availability is evident, and their growth remains significant, even if the larger companies take the majority of the market share.
