After getting riddled with countless issues including the defaming ‘overheating problem’ on iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max, Apple has released an update – iOS 17.0.3, to fix the problem as promised. It is an incremental update that sits over iOS 17 and gives both the Pro variants relief from the overheating problem.

Ever since the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max started shipping later last month, people have been complaining about the overheating issues. Later, Apple clarified that it was not the A17 Pro SoC and neither the titanium frame nor the reduced cooling area was behind the issue. Instead, it tagged a bug discovered on iOS 17 as well as third-party apps like Instagram and Uber overloading posing a problem with heat dissipation and thus, ending up overheating.

With that being said, the new iOS 17.0.3 is supposed to solve that issue, and yes, without ever throttling the Apple A17 Pro SoC. Uber, Instagram, and other apps that were listed by Apple in its statement should get their hands on updates shortly as well.

iOS 17.0.3 is already rolling out as we talk. It should take some time to reach all the users. It has a build number 21A360 and addresses a kernel vulnerability that would’ve allowed an attacker to engage with elevated privileges if exploited. It is the same flaw that iOS 16.6 and earlier versions saw. You need 400MB of storage to download the update and obviously, keep the phone charged decently so that the update is implemented effortlessly.

Apple is beta testing iOS 17.1 which is likely a significant update. It should roll out soon too although iOS 17.0.3 is the priority at this time.
