Tech giant Apple has introduced its first set of products for the year 2023. The products include faster MacBook Pro laptops and Mac Mini desktops. The new 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pros look the same as the previous MacBook Pros launched in 2021 but have become more powerful as they are powered by M2 Pro and M2 Max chipsets to replace the M1 Pro and M1 SoCs. The new Macbooks mark Apple’s 1st expansion of the M2 chip that debuted with the MacBook Air and MacBook pro last year.

New MacBook Pros

The new Macs further strengthen the product line that brought in 40.2 billion dollars last year, which accounted for more than 10% of Apple’s revenue. Apple is also planning to bring a variation of its M2 chip to high-end Mac Pro desktop computer and is also working on new MacBook Air series including a larger model with a 15-inch display.

The M2 Pro chipset has 12 main processing cores, which is a hike from a maximum of 10 cores. The graphics will reach up to 19 cores from 16 cores earlier. The M2 Max chipset doubles performance for graphics, climbing to 38 cores from the previously used 32 cores.

Memory has also been boosted to 96GB on models with the highest M2 Max chipset. Storage tops at 8TB, and battery life has been improved slightly from 17 hours to 18 hours on the 14-inch model and from 21 hours to 22 hours on the 16-inch model. Apple has also confirmed that the new MacBook Pros will support WiFi 6E along with a more powerful HDMI port. MacBook Pro and Mini will also support Bluetooth 5.3.

The updated 14-inch MacBook Pro starts at 1999 USD while the 16-inch model is priced at 2499 USD.

Apple Mac Mini Desktop

The new Mac Mini also looks the same as its predecessors. It has added the M2 chip as the MacBook Air and 13-inch MacBook Pro, while the M2 Pro version will include the same chipset as the new high-end MacBook pro. The Mac Mini costs 599 USD.

All these new Macs will start shipping on January 24th.

Apple’s Plans for 2023

Apart from these new Macs, Apple is also planning to introduce a Mixed reality headset in 2023. Apple iPhone 15 line-up is in the works along with a new HomePod speaker, Apple watches, and more.
