Cupertino-based Tech giant Apple is reportedly working on 90Hz refresh rate displays for upcoming iPad Air, Studio Display, and iMac models. Apple’s 120Hz screen has been limited to Pro Models of iPhones and iPads only and while there are reports of non-pro iPhone models getting a 120Hz refresh rate from 2025, an anonymous source via Upgrade Podcast has revealed that the company is working on a 90Hz refresh rate displays for upcoming iPad Air models and two more devices. The 2024 version of iPad Air comes with a 60Hz display so it would be a good upgrade.

Apple devices to get 90Hz displays

Apple will launch new models in the iPad Air Series that are expected to feature 90Hz refresh rate displays. These will be powered by M3 chipset and retain an LCD panel. Since the refresh rate will be boosted, the new displays will give smoother animations and scrolling.

Along with iPad Air models, 24-inch iMac, and next-generation Studio Display are also expected to get a 90Hz screen. Both feature 60Hz displays as of now. The current Studio Display comes with a 27-inch 5K LCD panel with a 60Hz refresh rate, P3 Wide color gamut, and 600 nits brightness.

This is the first time that the news of 90Hz displays for Apple devices is being heard. Currently, Apple offers 60Hz and 120Hz ProMotion displays, but now it seems the brand aims to bump the refresh rates on its products starting in 2025. Apple has lagged behind in this aspect as all its competitors have launched devices with much higher refresh rates way earlier.

The Apple iPad Air is expected to debut in the first few months of 2025. Apple’s Studio Display got its update in 2022, but there is no clarity about the timeline for its next generation. iMac was updated by Apple last week, so its successor won’t be arriving before late 2025. Since the rumors about the 90Hz refresh rate come from anonymous sources, they should be taken with a pinch of salt as of now.
