Casio continues to prove that retro never goes out of style. The Japanese watchmaker has announced a fresh update to its iconic A159 digital lineup, introducing a unique textural twist to one of the most recognizable silhouettes in the world of horology.
The new models, the A159WEVJ-2 and A159WEVJ-7 maintain the “Vintage” charm that has made the series a staple for decades, while adding a sophisticated “scale” pattern to the watch face.

A Textural Twist on a Retro Icon
The standout feature of this new release is the dial’s geometric pattern, which resembles fish or snake scales. This subtle texture adds a layer of depth and light-play to the watch face, elevating it from a standard digital timepiece to a more fashion-forward accessory. While the A159 series has traditionally leaned into a utilitarian aesthetic, this design choice targets enthusiasts looking for something that stands out in a crowded market of “throwback” tech.
Two Distinct Colorways
Casio is launching this series in two versatile versions:
- A159WEVJ-2: Features a vibrant, deep blue dial that contrasts sharply with the classic silver-tone stainless steel bracelet.
- A159WEVJ-7: Offers a more monochromatic, understated look with a silver/grey dial that blends seamlessly with the metal casing.
Both models are paired with the classic adjustable stainless steel link bracelet, ensuring they remain lightweight and comfortable for daily wear.
Classic Performance Meets Modern Style
Under the hood, these watches remain true to the Casio philosophy: reliability and simplicity. The “Made in Japan” branding on the dial remains a mark of quality for collectors. You can expect the same feature set on this series as the regular models which include aily alarm, hourly time signal, Water resistance for daily splashes and a battery life that typically lasts up to seven years.

Availability
While pricing and regional availability are yet to be fully confirmed, these models are expected to sit within Casio’s affordable Vintage range. That said, these model can be a collector’s dream given the new dial pattern thereby marking up the price if Casio decides to limit stock.
