TL; DR
- Samsung will be introducing a new Privacy Display feature with the upcoming Galaxy S26 Ultra but it won’t remain exclusive for long.
- Tipster Digital Chat Station says Chinese smartphone makers are already testing similar hardware-level privacy screens for future flagships around September.
- The feature limits side-angle visibility so only the person directly in front of the phone can clearly see the display.
A new leak suggests that the Privacy Display feature rumored for the Galaxy S26 Ultra may not stay exclusive for long. According to well-known Chinese tipster Digital Chat Station, several domestic smartphone manufacturers in China are already testing similar technology and could introduce it in their next flagship cycle around September.

The feature itself focuses on screen privacy. When enabled, the display remains clear for the user looking directly at it, while people viewing the phone from the side see a darkened screen. It works like a built-in privacy filter but implemented at the hardware level rather than through an accessory or screen protector.

How does the Privacy Display on the Galaxy S26 Ultra work?

Samsung is bringing this idea first with the Galaxy S26 Ultra. An early hands-on video circulating online shows a setting called Privacy Display with an additional option labeled Maximum privacy protection. Once turned on, the phone becomes difficult to read from side angles, which could be useful in public places such as flights, trains, offices, or cafes.
Additionally, Samsung is adding customization options to the Privacy Display. A partial screen privacy mode hides notification pop ups from side angles while the rest of the screen stays visible, and users can choose which apps activate Privacy Display.

The feature can also be turned on automatically when entering a PIN, password, or pattern in places like the lock screen, system settings, or Secure Folder, while fingerprint and face unlock keep it off.

More phones with privacy displays coming soon
Digital Chat Station’s post indicates Chinese manufacturers are testing their own versions of this hardware-level privacy technology and could roll it out with new flagship models expected later this year in September.
Unlike niche experimental features that disappear after one generation, privacy displays solve a simple everyday problem. That makes it more likely other brands will follow quickly once the first implementation appears in a shipping device.
Samsung is set to officially unveil the Galaxy S26 series on February 25. If the feature works well in real-world use, it may become one of the more interesting display additions in upcoming flagship phones.
