MediaTek’s latest flagship chipset is officially here and will be powering a hoard of flagship devices in 2024 alongside its rival the almighty Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. It will be powering a bunch of smartphones starting with the upcoming Vivo X100. It is built on a 4nm+ process by TSMC and has a max frequency of 3.25GHz capable of 40% better peak performance and 33% less power compared to last year’s flagship Dimensity 9200 SoC.

MediaTek Dimensity 9300 5G SoC Launched

MediaTek’s Dimensity 9300 5G is built on TSMC’s 4nm+ process and compared head-on with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC. It uses a 1+3+4 core architecture for its CPU that includes four Cortex-X4 cores and four Cortex-A720 cores boasting a max frequency of 3.25GHz. Compare it with SD 8 Gen 3 which has a 1+3+2+2 cores architecture paired with a max 3.3GHz frequency.

MediaTek has claimed that the Dimensity 9300 bashed the scores of 2,130,000 points on the AnTuTu benchmark which is approximately around the figures Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 reportedly hit on the OnePlus 12 (at 2,110,808 points) in a leaked benchmark.

A 12-core Immortalis-G720 MC13 GPU joins the CPU along with hardware-based ray tracing. Compare it with Dimensity 9200’s Immortalis G715 and you get a 40% less power consumption plus 46% improved performance which is a lot to comprehend when it comes to a flagship chipset. On a single-core basis, Dimensity 9300 SoC’s performance has improved by 15% while its multi-core performance jumped by 40%.

The Dimensity 9300 is also paired with LPDDR5T RAM support at a max of 9,600 Mbps plus UFS 4.0 storage with a Multi-Circular Queue (MCQ) support. For context, SD8Gen3 has LPDDR5X support.

As artificial intelligence (AI) is a big thing in 2023 and will be bigger next year, MediaTek can’t afford to lose an edge. Thus, its APU 790 will support all AI-related tasks. It supports LLM with up to 33 billion parameters and the Generative AI support is capable of performing Stable Diffusion in less than a second. All this with a reduced power consumption by an unbelievable 45%. Next up, we have up to WQHD resolution support and a max 180Hz refresh rate for displays including usual and dual-active displays embedded on foldable devices.

Next up, the ISP onboard is Imagip 990 ISP which supports standalone OIS, always-on HDR, and up to 8K video resolution at 30fps. It can go as high as 60fps at 4K resolution along with support for real-time bokeh and cinematic shots.

Talking about Dimensity 9300 on smartphones, it won’t take much longer as Vivo X100 is already getting it (or has debuted when you read this). A few more smartphones in China will get it first followed by Europe in early 2024 and so on.
