TL;DR

  • The California-based tech giant has started rolling out the Android 15 to eligible Pixel devices.
  • It ships with new features like Theft Detection, Private Space, and the ability to pin/unpin taskbar on foldables and tablets.

Back in August, Google unveiled the new Pixel 9 series. Enriched with the goodness of Gemini Nano and all the Google AI features, the Pixel 9 series now sits atop Google’s lineup of smartphones. While the series had several upgrades over its predecessor, it was also the first Pixel phone to launch without a new version of Android.

Which Pixel Devices Are Getting Android 15?

Anyway, the California-based tech giant has started rolling out the Android 15 for eligible Pixel devices. These include all the models in the Pixel 6, Pixel 7, Pixel 8, and Pixel 9 (review) series. The latest mobile operating system rolls out with features like Theft Detection Lock, which automatically locks the phone’s screen upon sensing that someone has snatched it and is trying to run, bike, or drive away.

Introducing Theft Detection Lock

The operating system also ships with additional authentication requirements for accessing and changing sensitive information or settings, such as turning off Find My Device. This makes it harder for thieves to reset a stolen device. Another feature called Private Space is making its way to the aforementioned Pixel devices with Android 15. It allows users to create a personal space for sensitive apps that aren’t showcased anywhere else on the device.

On foldable and tablets, Android 15 now allows users to pin/unpin the taskbar on the screen. This lets users personalize their screen layout and keep their favorite apps, like Gmail or Google Photos, in reach. Further, app pairing allows users to quickly open two apps side-by-side and do the needful.

Further, users will be able to log into apps that use Passkeys with a single tap.
