It hasn’t been a good month since the launch of the Snapdragon 8 Elite SoC, and rumors about its purported successor have already started to circulate on the internet. The latest piece of information comes from a tipster who claims that the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 and the Dimensity 9500 chipsets will offer a significant performance boost over the current-generation models.

Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 Could Score Around 4,000 Points In GeekBench 6’s Single-Core Test

Snapdragon 8 Elite

According to an X post by @Jukanlosreve, the successor of the Snapdragon 8 Elite processor, Snapdragon 8 Elite 2, will offer a significant jump in single and multi-core performance.

The now-deleted post suggested that the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 will offer about a 25% increase in single-core GeekBench 6 scores. Per the user, the processor should be able to score around 4,000 points in the single-core score.

For those catching up, the Snapdragon 8 Elite scores about 3,200 points in the same benchmark test. This score is about 30% higher than that of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, which powered most flagship smartphones in 2023 and the beginning of 2024.

If The Rumors Are True, Qualcomm Must Work On The Processor’s Heat Dissipation Mechanism

Given that the X user has deleted the post, it seems that there’s no solid source to back it. On the other hand, if the rumor is true, it will be interesting to see how Qualcomm manages to keep the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 running under optimal temperatures.

The current-generation flagship chipset, Snapdragon 8 Elite, isn’t exactly known for its excellent thermal management abilities. Several reports claim that the chipset runs hotter than the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, especially due to the high clock speed of the prime cores.

Dimensity 9500 Should Also Provide Similar Performance Boost

Interestingly, the X user also suggested that MediaTek’s Dimensity 9400’s successor, which might be called the Dimensity 9500, could offer similar performance improvements across single and multi-core benchmarks.

Earlier, the tipster suggested that Qualcomm will collaborate with Samsung, in addition to TSMC, to manufacture its Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 processor using the Korean giant’s SF2 2nm fabrication technology. However, @Jukanlosreve now suggests that the company has dropped the plans, and the Snapdragon 8 Elite will be based on TSMC’s N3P node.
