Google has announced a major partnership with Reliance Jio, offering 18 months of free access to the Google AI Pro plan for Jio users across India. The rollout, which begins later this year, marks one of Google’s most aggressive AI access programs anywhere in the world and a direct answer to Airtel’s Perplexity Pro deal announced earlier this month.

Under this partnership, Jio Unlimited 5G users will get complimentary access to Google’s AI Pro plan, which includes the company’s latest and most capable Gemini 2.5 Pro model. Users can generate images and videos through Google’s new Nano Banana and Veo 3.1 tools, access NotebookLM for academic and research work, and enjoy 2TB of Google Cloud storage across Photos, Drive, and Gmail — even for WhatsApp backups on Android.

Google says the combined value of these benefits is around ₹35,100, but Jio users won’t have to pay a rupee. The offer will first roll out to users aged 18–25, with nationwide expansion planned over the next few months. It will be offered to Jio customers who have an active 5G plan. Eligible users can claim the offer through the MyJio app once it goes live.

A new front in India’s AI access wars

This move comes as India becomes a fierce battleground for AI platform adoption. Airtel recently partnered with Perplexity AI to give its users one year of Perplexity Pro, valued globally at ₹17,000, which includes access to models like GPT-4.1 and Claude, along with file uploads, image generation, and deep research tools.

Meanwhile, OpenAI is also jumping into the race, announcing a free one-year ChatGPT Go subscription for Indian users starting November 4. Google’s Jio partnership effectively ups the ante. By bundling AI services with telecom plans, the company isn’t just promoting Gemini; it’s positioning AI access as the new data pack.

What Jio users actually get

Here’s a quick breakdown of what the Google AI Pro Plan brings to eligible Jio subscribers:

  • Gemini 2.5 Pro access in the Gemini app
  • Veo 3.1 and Nano Banana for advanced video and image generation
  • NotebookLM integration for study, writing, and research
  • 2TB cloud storage across Google Drive, Photos, and Gmail
  • WhatsApp chat backup integration (Android only)

That’s roughly the equivalent of what a paid Google One AI Premium subscriber would get globally, except this one’s free for a year and a half.

It’s a win-win move for Google and Jio

For Google, this isn’t just about marketing Gemini. It’s a strategic foothold in a country that’s home to more than 480 million Jio subscribers, most of them first-time AI users. The move also deepens Google’s long-standing alliance with Reliance, which began with its investment in Jio Platforms back in 2020.

For Jio, the partnership bolsters its pitch as India’s most “AI-ready” telecom network, pushing the conversation beyond 5G speeds and toward AI-powered experiences.

If the execution holds, this could become one of the largest AI access deployments in the world and a signal that the next telecom race in India won’t be fought over data, but over intelligence.

How to claim the Jio Google AI Pro Offer

Eligible users can activate the Google AI Pro Plan through the MyJio app once the rollout begins. The offer will appear under the “Rewards & Offers” tab with 5G plans with verification required via Jio phone number and Google account login.
