Google kicked off I/O 2025 with Sundar Pichai taking the stage. The keynote started with Google summarizing Gemini 2.5’s progress and how it has 400+ million monthly active users. Pichai claims that Google is bringing Gen AI to more people than any other product in the world. Dive in for all that’s announced during Google’s two-hour opening keynote.
Android 16 QPR1 Beta 1

Ahead of stable release, Google has rolled out QPR1 Beta 1 to Pixel devices with a new Material 3 Expressive redesign. It includes revamped notifications shade, quick settings panel, locksreen and launcher.
Google Beam

Project Starline 3D video conferencing will now be called Google Beam and the company has partnered with HP for the new AI communications tool. It will be available for users towards the end of 2025.
Google Meet gets Live Translation
Google has confirmed that Google Meet will get live speech translation directly. It will be similar to having a human interpreter on the call.
Gemini Live advancements

- Google is rolling out Gemini Live camera and screen sharing to iOS as well as Android devices, starting today. Gemini is also getting an Agent Mode that will be available for Gemini subscribers soon.
- Gemini 2.5 Flash has also been announced, and it will be an improved version available starting in June. Google claims it will be better in every dimension.
- Gemini 2.5 Flash Lite is also coming soon.
- Google has also announced a Gemini 2.5 Pro “Deep Think” mode for advanced reasoning. The company wants Gemini 2.5 Pro to be a world model that will be able to simulate the world to take action in it.

- Gemini Diffusion has also been talked about which is claimed to be 5 times faster than 2.5 pro version. It can generate codes and maths within seconds.
- Google has also announced Gemini for Chrome in the US starting today.
- All the Gemini Live features are now free, which means users can use Veo 3, Imagen 4, and other capabilities starting today.
Android XR Announcements

- Google has unveiled Project Moohan, the company’s first Android XR-powered device.
- Google has also announced Android XR glasses, which will allow users to send texts, mute notifications, and record live features among other things.
Project Mariner

As expected, Google’s project Mariner will enable multitasking, and it can now oversee up to ten simultaneous tests per second using a feature called each and repeat.
Personalized smart replies on Gmail
Google is rolling out personalized smart replies so users won’t have to break their head over what to say to an email they have received. The update will be available coming summer.
Project Astra

Project Astra capabilities will come to Google apps and form factors, like XR glasses. Google showed a video of Project Astra controlling an Android phone live. The company confirmed that it is bringing advanced features of Project Astra to Gemini Live. It will help people with disabilities, especially people with visual impairment.
Visual Shopping & Agentic Features
Google has confirmed that it will enhance the shopping experience with its visual shopping and agentic features, which will roll out in the coming months.
New AI Plans
Google has announced two new AI plans during I/O 2025. These subscription plans are called Google AI Pro and the Google AI Ultra. The plans are available in the US and will be rolling out soon.
Imagen 4 Announced
The tech giant has announced Imagen 4, an advanced image generation model that will now be even more efficient and better at making creative choices, apt for creators.
Veo 3 Goes Official
The I/O Keynote began with a video created using Veo 3, and now Google has officially announced it. The Veo 3 video generation model will be available starting today, and it comes with native audio generation as well. Veo 3 will be able to generate sound effects and dialogue, prompt your character and speak, and more. Veo 3 and Imagen 4 are a part of the new AI Video Editing suite ‘Flow’.
AI Sandbox by Google
Indian singer and musician Shankar Mahadevan shared his experience after using AI Sandbox by Google. He claims that it is a great tool for musicians.
Other Announcements
- Google is now rolling out personalized speech-to-text for its users.
- Jules for coders is now in public beta: jules.google
- In the future, Google aims to make a Universal AI assistant, which will be the ultimate vision for the Gemini App. The aim of this Gemini App is personal, proactive, and powerful.
- Google has talked about AlphaFold language model that will help people with important medical research.
- AI Mode is also rolling out to all users in the US starting today. It will be available as a new tab in Search. AI Mode will extract personalized suggestions from your past searches and Gmail. This will be called personal context and will roll out this summer. AI Mode is even getting Deep Search for dozens or hundreds of searches.
- As a fun fact, Google revealed that Google Lens has 1.5 billion users every month.
- The company is rolling out Search Live to AI Mode.
- By introducing the New Try-On feature, Google will now let you try on clothes virtually.
- The tech giant is levelling up personalization as it will now allow users to add more personal context from across Google apps to Gemini.
- Google is also rolling out Camera and Screen-sharing on iOS and Android devices from today onwards.
- Deep Research is also getting new capabilities. It will now allow users to upload their research papers easily.
- Google has announced partnerships with Samsung for headsets and glasses.
