Google’s much-awaited smartphone, Google Pixel 6a is gearing up for its launch this year. Yes, you heard it right, Google might finally be bringing a Pixel device to India. According to tipster Max Jambor, the company is all set to launch a Pixel device in May 2022. The chances seem bright as Google had previously launched the Pixel 3a series around the same time of the year.

However last year, Google Pixel 5a launched a little later, that is in August in the US, and came to India even later in January. Meanwhile, its predecessor, the Google Pixel 4a had launched in August 2020 in India. So it will be interesting to see when 6a finally sees the light of the day.

According to reports, Google is expected to hold an event to launch a Pixel Watch on May 26, which could be the date for Google Pixel 6a too.

Google’s anticipated first foldable Pixel Phone may also get a launch in 2022. Latest reports claim it will be called Pixel Notepad and the name marks a departure from Google’s usual way of naming its smartphones.

Google Pixel 6a Expected Specs

Some designs and specs of the Google Pixel 6a have leaked out due to the unofficial renders shared by OnLeaks, which give us an idea of what Google Pixel 6a might look like.

The renders show a large camera block running horizontally across the back of the device, housing a dual-lens camera. There is a 3 tone color scheme, a punch-hole camera on the front, and a 6.2-inch OLED display. The smartphone is expected to be powered by a Google Tensor GS101 chipset, paired with up to 8GB RAM. The Google Pixel 6a has a glass back and dimensions of 152.2×71.8×8.7mm.

In the camera department, Pixel 6a will have a 50MP primary rear camera and it will get a 12MP ultra-wide snapper and an 8MP front camera. It will run Android 12 out of the box and be Google’s first budget device without a headphone jack.

Google Pixel Notepad Expected Specs & Price

The Pixel Notepad is expected to be priced lower than the foldable phones by Samsung. It is said to be cheaper than the $1799 (Rs. 1,34,000) price tag for the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 in the US last year. The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 (review) came to India for Rs. 149,999.

Recently, a report came out that showed how a SIM card could be installed into the upcoming foldable smartphone by Google in Android 12L Beta 2. The SIM setup page shows a smartphone with a prominent foldable display rather than a typical-single screen design. The SIM card slot is located at the bottom, volume rockers are at the lower right side and there is a joint in the top and bottom depicting a hinge.

Pixel Notepad is tipped to come with the same Google Tensor processer that comes in Pixel 6 and 6 Pro devices. The camera, though, might face a downgrade. Pixel Notepad might first get a launch in the US followed by other countries.
