Harry Potter TV Show Confirmed to be in Production: Might release in late 2026 or 2027

Warner Bros. Harry Potter franchise has been revived, this time as a TV Series. The filming for the Harry Potter TV Series is set to begin this summer, with the show already entering the pre-production stage. Previously, HBO confirmed that a Harry Potter TV Series is in the works and will tell the same story as we saw in the movies, but the show will have an entirely different cast. Although the lead cast is yet to be confirmed, some cast members have already been confirmed. Here’s what we know about the show so far.

Harry Potter Series: Cast (confirmed & expected)

John Lithgow will play the role of Albus Dumbledore. The role was originally played by Richard Harris and Michael Gambon, it is one of the most important characters in Harry Potter’s world. Now, John Lithgow, a six-time Emmy Award-winning actor, will step into the shoes of the iconic character. The actor himself confirmed the news in an interview with Variety in February 2025.

Nick Frost will play Rubeus Hagrid. This is one of the most fan-favorite characters in the franchise, and the actor hopes to recreate the same magic as original one.

Janet McTeer will play Minerva McGonagall. Maggie Smith played the character in the movies, and Fiona Glascott played her role in Fantastic Beasts. Now Deadline claims Janet McTeer will reprise the role in the series.

Paapa Essiedu will play Severus Snape, who is one of the most complicated characters in the movies. Earlier, it was played by Alan Rickman, and now Paapa Essiedu will be included in the cast.

Cillian Murphy is rumored to play the role of Professor Quirinus Quirrell who was a temporary Horcrux in the series. Meanwhile for Harry, Hermione and Ron, casting is still underway.

Harry Potter Series: Plot

This new Max Original show will dive into each of the iconic books that fans have enjoyed over the years. Each season of the show will focus on one book in the Harry Potter Book series. Although there are seven novels, the show is expected to run for 10 consecutive years, so how it will play out remains to be seen.

What is the latest update on the Harry Potter Series?

HBO has confirmed that the show will start shooting in the summer of 2025 at Leavesden. The pre-production has begun while the casting process is going on at the moment.

Harry Potter Series: Release Date

Harry Potter Series is expected to stream in late 2026 or early 2027. Since the shooting will start in mid of 2025 and it will take time for post-production too, the show won’t release before 2026 or 2027.

Where will the Harry Potter Series Release on OTT?

After its release, the show will be available on HBO Max or JioHotstar in India. You will need a subscription to watch the series.
